Skip ARFHandwriting A?

Post by rgrindle » Thu May 24, 2012 12:57 pm

We did ARFH-K with LHTH for my older son. Now, he's doing left side LHFHG, right side BLHFHG for math and reading. But I've had him working on ARFHandwriting A instead of doing the Beyond language arts. He's really interested in spelling though, lately. And as long as he goes slowly, his handwriting really is pretty good. Would it make sense to skip ARFH and start the Beyond Language Arts with spelling and copywork instead of the workbook? Or should I stay the course and have him complete book A before we move on? He's 6.5, if that makes a difference.

He can do Beyond's LA plans for Spelling List 1 either now or next year when he does Beyond for his core guide. I would start Spelling List 1 with him now only if he can spell 3-4 letter words fairly well, and only if he can write 3 short sentences, as this is an important part of the spelling plans in Beyond 1 x a week. Since the poems coincide with Beyond's history, I'd wait to do those for copywork until next year. However, I had my ds in LHFHG write his Bible verse each week and share it with someone. I also had him finish out ARFH A. Along with the planned writing in the Storytime box of LHFHG, this all worked together to keep him writing at a level that suited him without being overwhelming. HTH! :D
