Reading for Pleasure

I am wondering what types of books kids who are doing the emergent reader schedule are reading for pleasure.

Bryce likes to read Henry and Mudge, The Shrunken Heads, and Blast Off Readers.

He would probably also like the "Mr. Putter and Tabby" series, also by Cynthia Rylant. My kids think those are hysterical!

YES - we love Mr. Putter and Tabby. We also tried three Iris and Walter books that were okay for us. I haven't read the whole series.

My son loves Magic School Bus, as well. The chapter books. But I usually preread them. I like to point out what we disagree with.

I also just wanted to mention that there is an extra classic-type book suggested for each unit of the emerging reader schedule (just in case you missed those suggestions).

That is what my kiddos read for free reading each week when we were doing the emerging reader's schedule.

We do that too!
I actually use those ones [listed just before the questions] to keep him busy while DS#2 is doing phonics.

I'm not sure mine is an emergent reader, but she just learned to read this school year and is enjoying the Little House books, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (which I think was a bit of a challenge for her, but she did okay), and The Melendy Quartet (I get asked a lot of "what does ___ mean?" but she's flying through them)

Thanks for all the suggestions. I do use the other suggested titles. He is just very much into "Dog" books. If the story doesn't have a dog he is not to interested to read on his own. I am hoping that if we read some of these suggested titles together we can broaden his reading interests.
