Copywork is one thing my heart has always been drawn to, but I've not done. We have implemented this since we began HOD. (thank you Carrie for scheduling it or I would have never done it)
My question is this...., how do YOU teach this? Do you have them copy it as it's written in the manuel OR (with all the margins) Do you allow them to simply write it normally, with proper grammar? Does this question make sense?
Since there is no lines on the paper I have found it a little confusing to "teach". (not HOD's fault, just never did it before)
What age are you looking for 'copy work' for? It would depend on the age, as to how much you want to assign. With my daughter, I started out assigning, just 2 -3 lines at a time in Beyond...,but now since she's been doing it quite a while, she can copy 8 lines, or more, if we desire to. She's copied scripture verses as well on some days, if she finished the assigned copy work. It has helped a lot with her handwriting. Maybe you can let us know which child you are using this for to help us give better advice. I'm sure others, and Carrie, will log on and tell you a bit better than me how it works.

Oh That would help. I am using Beyond with a 8 and 12 year old. (12 year old has LD, but can write pretty well) So it's the poems in the back.
we do copy work as soon as we start handwriting. They complete their handwriting curriculum and we move right into copying in Kindergarten. About Christmas time.
I show them something from their phonics book, or just my own sentence and have them copy it.
I don't know how it will blend with LHFHG b/c I've not done that before and we will start that in Sept for grade one.

DS 17 -gr.12 full time college student
DS 15- gr. 10 favorites from World Geo and World Hx.
DD 13- gr. 8 Rev to Rev
DD 11- gr. 6 CTC
DD 7 - gr. 2 Beyond
DD 4 - pre-K Rod & Staff and Phonics Pathways
For my son I just write on a chalk board or type out what I would like him to copy. I do not expect him to write the same number of words on a line as I have but I do go back and correct grammer if needed. He is in K doing Little Hearts so we will be doing the Beyond copy work next year. Currently he does the bible verses or stories that he dictates to me.

Mary we also plug copywork into startwrite. It's great for handwriting practice as well. We do some without. But all our HOD stuff I throw into Startwrite so that they get the handwriting and it helps my dd with CP as well. I highly recommend it especially if you have kids that tend to have difficulties
skipping lines etc.

I believe it works on a Mac as well. I had to ask my dh if I was downlaoding the right one because it said Mac too. You will love it Mary!

The ladies have done such a great job of giving helpful suggestions. I'll also just mention that we did do our copywork on lined paper for "Beyond...". I just photocopied the poems from the back of "Beyond...", so my child had his own copy. Then, I marked off how much I wanted my guy to copy each day in order to complete the poem by the end of day 5. That way he copied the entire poem each week and had a poetry notebook of his own by the end of the year.
For kiddos that struggle with copying, it is a good idea to write (or type) one line at a time on paper and have them copy that line beneath it. If I remember correctly, I think I give some suggestions on this in the Introduction/overview pages at the beginning of "Beyond..." (under the language arts section of the overview).

Oh You mean I'm supposed to read all the directions at the beginning of the manuel?
I'm infamous for not reading all of the directions either. I'm more of an open-and-go girl, and if I run into trouble, I go back and read the directions.
