Is there a specific spelling level that kids should be at when they start dictation? We used some HOD this last year for first grade and used the first spelling level in Beyond. For the fall, I actually bought Spelling Workout B. Now I am thinking of going back to HOD, but I want to use the spelling I bought. If i do that, should we be able to just go into dictation the following year? (Third grade) I just don't want to set us back a year.
Thanks!

on my phone so don't trip over all the extra periods and typos.
Probably will be fine to do that but keep in mind.the way HOD does spelling is important because the methods are preparing them for dictation. it's not just about the words or the level of difficulty of.the words. you may want to employ the HOD methods along with your program this year so you are getting the dictation prep. He would learn it later through actual dictation buy its always so nice to see.the smooth transitions.in.HOD from one.skill into the next. it really makes a difference in.how long it takes to acclimate or find.your groove.with a new way of teaching and learning.that's not familiar. and dictation certainly isn't familiar yo most!

Re: Spelling/Dictation question
Agreeing with pp - HOD is more than a spelling list. The LA box of plans for spelling helped give my dc the skills to move into dictation. You may want to look at the plans and either do spelling list 2 with them, or see if you think your dc will be prepared from having done Spelling Workout for dictation. HTH!

Re: Spelling/Dictation question
Thanks gals. I actually loved the HOD method so I have been using it with Spelling Workout. I guess I should look at how different the words are between the two programs and maybe I will just use the HOD list 2...
