Ice Age and Noah's Ark?
Ice Age and Noah's Ark?
I'm researching titles for next year and I've read that Draw and Write through History states that the flood caused The Ice Age. I know nothing about The Ice Age, but this seems to be far-fetched to me. Can someone please clarify this for me?

Re: Ice Age and Noah's Ark?
We are currently using the books that you are referring to in Preparing Hearts. The basic premise is that the global flood resulted in such cataclysmic atmospheric and weather-related changes that the Ice Age was part of the result. If you'd like more detailed information (if you don't already have the books) you can go to Answers in Genesis' website and they have a ton of information on this topic.
Hope this helps!

In seminars I've attended this is taught as being a fairly likely theory- using the knowledge we have now. AiG should have lots of easy to understand info.mamayi wrote:The basic premise is that the global flood resulted in such cataclysmic atmospheric and weather-related changes that the Ice Age was part of the result. Re: Ice Age and Noah's Ark?
We are old earth people, so we believe the Ice Age (the big one everyone means when they say Ice Age) happened long before Noah's Ark. So, we are using Preparing as written, but I explain that different people have different ideas about how old the earth is (because even dh and myself have different ideas, even though we are both old earth). I explain that what she's learning is one idea, I tell her my ideas (if she asks), and sometimes she asks dh what he thinks.

We too are currently using Preparing. I think that the books chosen do a great job explaining the Ice Age and other historical events in a way that stay true to the Bible. In order for there to be an Ice Age, there would have had to have been certain changes in weather and atmosphere that didn't exist before the Global Flood mentioned in Genesis. The Answers in Genesis website will have lots of info for you to do further research. I hope that you enjoy Preparing as much as we have!mamayi wrote:We are currently using the books that you are referring to in Preparing Hearts. Re: Ice Age and Noah's Ark?
Oh dear. I've read Genesis, and I've never seen anything about an Ice Age in it. You would think that that would be specifically mentioned after the flood. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but the more I read about AIG and Ken Ham, the less I like it/him. I'll have to look it over with my husband and research it using AIG and then make a decision.

Just so you know it isn't just Ken Hamm that teaches this. Many Creation based scientist teach it. You can look at the Institute for Creation Research which also has articles on it.

I'm an undecided old earth / young earth gal!! I also like ICR...and they send daily emails and even quarterly devotions, and 'Acts & Facts' magazine - I filled out a little form at convention last year and I've really enjoyed their magazine and devotions. I bet you could request these at their website too. Great resource.LynnH wrote:Just so you know it isn't just Ken Hamm that teaches this. Many Creation based scientist teach it. Another great person to talk to personally is Brian Young of Creation Instruction Association. He does a great job of explaining the age of the earth, ice age, etc. I would give you his website but I think it is down right now. You can Google him if you like.
I believe that the earth is young. When God created the earth he did it in six literal (and lunar days), "And there was evening, and there was morning —the first day." "And there was evening, and there was morning —the second day." and so on. God is very clear in Genesis 1 about the length of creation.

Dr. Charles Jackson is also a great one to talk with. He currently works for Creation Truth Foundation. You can find him on FB too and he has a video blog. He's great at explaining things in an easy to understand, Biblically accurate way. I've heard him speak and spoken to him many times over the years.blessedmama wrote:Another great person to talk to personally is Brian Young of Creation Instruction Association. I think you find the ice age in Job. Again, Brian Young really knows his Bible and science so he can be of more help then me.Daph wrote:Oh dear. Re: Ice Age and Noah's Ark?
This theory was new to me as well when we starting Preparing. I've always wondered about the Ice Age and when it took place but never took the time to study it. It really makes sense and once we read The Wooly Mammoth is was an eye opener for me. I think we have been products of secular education for so long it's sometimes hard to tie it all in with Biblical (actual) history..or least that's my feelings. I'm thankful I can give my kids a better understanding.

Re: Ice Age and Noah's Ark?
I agree 100%! I find some things so hard to wrap my brain around at times. I truly believe those difficulties come from years of being taught half-truths, twisted truths, inaccurate facts and blatant lies. I used to think it was just a matter of creation vs evolution, but it's so much more than that.Cheryl Anne wrote: I think we have been products of secular education for so long it's sometimes hard to tie it all in with Biblical (actual) history..or least that's my feelings. And, I too am very thankful to be able to give my kids a better understanding, not only by hs'ing but also by all the wonderful people and resources now available (including HOD).

Re: Ice Age and Noah's Ark?
I appreciate so much the different perspectives on this thread. I've never given the Ice Age a moment's thought until we read about it in Preparing, so the different views on this thread are very helpful to me in "thinking" move about it!
With Joy!
