Handwriting in Beyond

Post by jenchampion » Thu Apr 26, 2012 7:00 am

I may be overlooking it, but is there a handwriting book for Beyond? I noticed for LHFHG uses either A Reason for HW or Italic, and Bigger uses Cheerful Cursive or Italic, but I do not see anything listed for Beyond.....I am just trying to get all my ducks in a row to order, and had not noticed this until now. This will be our first time to use HOD, so please bear with me! I am very excited! If my kids weren't burnt out with school (we just finished our year), I would go ahead and start for next year!

In Beyond, they do copywork of the poetry each week. Depending on the age and where the child is in handwriting skills, some may begin cursive while doing Beyond. My dd is almost 9, but we didn't because of some fine motor difficulties. I think she is now ready, but waiting to do that with Bigger in fall. HTH

My dd is 6, and we just finished Kindergarten, so I know she won't be ready for cursive. So she will not need a HW book, correct?

If you haven't used it already, you could use the Handwriting A book from Little Hearts instead of the copywork in Beyond. Did your dd do LHFHG? If she is not writing yet, going to Bigger next year may too big of a jump for her. More of a transition there. Otherwise, you may want to take two years to do Beyond. Many go half-speed in cases like this. Just a suggestion based on her writing skills. :)

Yes, she did the Italic HW. She did books A and B.

Then your dd should be ready for the copywork in Beyond. I have my dd doing copywork on the three-lined paper. Some use notebook paper. She does not need another handwriting program until she is ready to begin cursive.
