Extension package for DITHOR reading materials???

Post by tiffanieh » Mon Apr 23, 2012 6:23 am

We will be doing PHFHG in the fall and was wondering if my 5th grader could use the extension books for his DITHOR lessons? I'm just concerned that he will be doing A LOT of reading if he does DITHOR separately from these extension books?!

Also, is there anything other than reading he is supposed to do with the extension books?? Narration of them to me? Questions answered? Book report? Or simply just pure reading to dive deeper into the subject material??

not sure about using the extension pack for DITHOR. But in the appendix to the manual, there will be instructions for the extension schedule, for Bigger Hearts that included oral narrations, written narrations, and pictoral narrations. The instructions will tell you how many days per week to do each type of narration.

You don't have to do the extension books for your 5th grader if you feel it would be too much. It is really is for those kids that need more. My ds did not do them as a 5th grader, because he is a good reader, but not a strong reader.

some.of the books will fit.into.genres for dithor. others won't. so you could.use.some.of.the extensions books for.dithor. Thinking historical fiction, realistic fiction, non fiction, adventure.....

I gave them.to my 5th grader for free reading and.no assignments. she's a very strong reader and really enjoyed them. But content wise, preparing.is very meaty and has much to offer a 5th grader.
