Myths???

Hello everyone! I am curious if anyone knows whether myths will be covered in HOD? I feel like I need some guidance in this area and I'm not even sure if they are something I want to teach yet or not. Any thoughts? Is it important to cover these stories? Thanks for any insight.

IDK. I think if they were going to be taught it would be in CTC. I don't see them listed. I'm fine with not teaching them- or at least until he's much older.

My personal opinion is that this is best saved for 7th and 8th grade. I teach a literature class to homeschool kids this age one day a week and feel like it's a good age to have th0oughtful discussion. The spent time researching the myths and the specific gods and goddesses with the framework of knowing this was how a group of people believed and how it went against Scripture. The benefit, in my opinion, of studying them at all is the fact that they are so often referenced in other great works of literature and in our culture (like the Nike swoosh). I will not, however, be introducing these ideas to my girls before the middle school years.

I agree 100% with the bolded. When kids are mature enough to really understand how it is against Scripture yet so often used in our culture then I think it's good for them to know the info- if for no other reason than to not buy into the current beliefs. However, I see that as an upper level teaching dependent on each child's maturity, not something elementary kids need to be exposed to.

I differ in this belief than a LOT of my friends and I'm ok with that.
