Spreading out R & S

Post by tiffanieh » Fri Apr 20, 2012 10:36 am

I was reading on here where Carrie says to finish up R & S 6 by the END of 8th grade....if that's the case, then should I have my 5th grader do level 4 for 5th and 1/2 of 6th, then level 5 for 1/2 of 6th and 1/2 of 7th, then level 6 for the remainder of 7th and 8th??

I think he would be placed in level 5, but how could I possibly only do 2 levels over the course of 4 years???

You could do level 4 split between 5th and 6th, all of level 5 during 7th and all of level 6 during 8th. Or, all of level 4 during 5th, split level 5 over 6th and 7th, and do all of level 6 for 8th. The HOD guides CTC, and RTR split up the books by scheduling grammar lessons only twice a week, which balances out with the writing programs that are scheduled in those guides. It works out to 3 levels over 4 school years if you are starting with level 4. But if you started with level 5, simply do the first half of level 5 in 5th and the second half of level 5 for 6th; then first half of level 6 for 7th and second half of level 6 for 8th.

I've said this on several threads now, so I sure hope I'm remembering right. :D  But, I'm quite sure that the guides CTC and RTR are the only ones that schedule R&S half-speed. The next 2 HOD guides will schedule it full-speed. R&S isn't the only LA instruction in the guides, so you will still be covered very well with instruction there. You'll have DITHOR for literature instruction, another creative writing program, dictation, written narrations, oral narrations, etc., besides the grammar and writing included in R&S.

Really?? I was under the impression that it was half speed for R&S for all guides with CTC and later since they do add writing programs to those. Well, we are going to be in 4th grade in the fall. Plenty of time to figure it all out! :D

Yep! CTC & RTR are the only guides that have R&S half speed. I still have so much to learn! :D
