Flannel board for history and science

Post by psreit » Tue Apr 17, 2012 9:31 am

My dd loves to play with flannel boards to pretend she is teaching. I think I will get her some sets for her birthday next month. Does anyone use them for school? I was looking at flannel Bible stories. There is one on the fruits of the Spirit, which was the memory verse dd just learned, plus others that would be good. But, I wonder if there are any history stories that would coincide with HOD. I am going to do some searching, but if anyone has seen or used anything like that, please share. :D

Edit: I've been doing some searching and I'm finding some interesting stuff. I haven't looked deeply, but I found a set on the Pledge of Allegiance, which we just had in history and poetry. There are all kinds of flannel science visuals. I even found one on music with staff, notes, the whole works, which would be great for dd learning piano. She has some problems with eye tracking, so this would enlarge the lines and help her learn the notes better. I'm going to be overwhelmed. I won't know which to choose! :D I know there are books with pictures, but dd will love playing with these and because she is strong visually, it should help her remember some things she has learned. It will be better than watching TV in her spare time. :D

I'm not sure what you have looked at - but I found these:

Lastly, this is a good resource I found to make your own! It doesn't look terribly hard at all - I think I'm going to try this out! :D

venusmom - Thanks for the links. I know most flannel board stories are for younger children, but there are some science sets that may be helpful. I found some that will work for older dc on www.funfelt.com. That is where I found the music set. I'm leaning toward getting that one for dd's birthday, and possibly a science one. We will be doing some traveling. If I have a small flannel board for her, she can play with these while we're traveling. :D Right now I don't think I could find time to make my own. Maybe I will consider that for something dd can do for fun, once she has her own flannel board. :) She likes to pretend she is the teacher. :)
