How thankful I am for HOD!

Post by lissiejo » Thu Mar 29, 2012 11:41 am

I NEVER intended to homeschool. My husband and I agreed with the idea of keeping our kids home until school age, but after that we just assumed traditional school would be the route we would go. In the area we used to live we realized even before my first daughter was born that homeschooling might have to happen simply because of the schooling options around us. I stumbled upon, by God's grace, HOD in a catalog when they still sold them under other companies. I used LHTH with my oldest when she was 2-3 and and LHFHG as a K-4 curriculum to prepare her for K-5. We moved to a new location with better school options and I assumed I would do the same with my next two daughters to prepare them for school.

Even though I didn't plan to homeschool I knew that HOD would be my choice if we ever "had to". When my oldest daughter began to struggle emotionally in school in first grade because of her perfectionist tendencies, we had to figure out what to do. After a month of praying we decided to pull her out last November. I knew I would have to have everything ready in a short time and with no hesitation I went right back to HOD, using Beyond this time.

It has been a beautiful time for our family. I honestly looked at homeschooling as something God was calling me to, but I probably wouldn't enjoy. Imagine my surprise last week when it dawned on me that I was enjoying school as much as my daughter! HOD enabled me to jump into homeschooling confidently and help my daughter regain her confidence in her abilities without all the stress of, "Is this the right curriculum?" I've had some questions along the way, but this board has helped so much! My husband can also take over if anything happens and he also feels confident in teaching.

I just want to say thank you because our family is now following the homeschool path indefinitely until God shows us something different and it is due in very large part to HOD. God led me to you before I knew we would be on this path. Thank you for all you do!

I truly loved reading this. :D It is in reading stories like yours that others find the inspiration to homeschool. Taking time to stop and smell the roses, to realize you really do enjoy what you do, to purpose to find the enjoyment in each day you are given with your dc, that is such a way to live life to its fullest! It is a mindset that can life changing. Thank you for sharing this, and for encouraging others as you tell about your journey in homeschooling with HOD! :D
