Question about Bigger Extention package

Help me understand how the extension package works. If you are only using the guide for an older student would the extension books be used as supplement or in place of the lesson plan as written?

They are intended to be read independently by the older student...in addition to the regular lesson. Since I'm using Bigger with 2 DC, I just read it aloud to the both of them. There are suggestions to add in narration throughout the week as well.

There is a daily reading schedule and suggestions for follow-up activities in the appendix.
