Two Different Guides, 4 days per week?

Post by busymichaela » Sun Mar 18, 2012 11:53 pm

Hi! I'm new here :D My husband and I have been home schooling our children for the past 4 years using a mix of Charlotte Mason style curriculum and materials; I lead our church Home School Academy which results in my free time often being limited, so HOD seems like a wonderful solution to still provide a CM style of education without the hours of lesson planning and prep work.

Our children will be going into 2nd & 6th grades next year...it seems likely that we'll need to purchase two different guides; however, we school at home 4 days per week and spend Fridays at church for enrichment classes. Would we be a little too over-zealous by trying to tackle two different guides, crammed into 4 days per week instead of 5 days? We truly don't want to over burden the kids; we all like free afternoons

Any suggestions/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

First of all, the 6th graders guide will most likely already be planned for 4 days per week :) So no worries there!

But I would say for the 2nd grader, just do 4 days per week and start the next week where you left off. Don't try to cram the 5th day in, just move it to the next week. You'll have to carry the guide over for 8-9 weeks the next year, unless you school year round, in which case it wouldn't matter anyway. But carrying the old guide over to the next year is a really good way to ease back into school after a summer break :)

Instead of looking at it like you have to match the fuide week for week, just match it day for day. So in other words do days 1-4 on Monday- Thursday, then do day 5 monday of the next week. Tuesday you would start a new unit and so forth. Make sense?
