Carrie-Preparing Question

Post by inHistiming » Mon May 05, 2008 1:18 pm

I will not be using Preparing... until 2009 school year, but while looking at the book packs I had a question pop up. This year, since my son was using AWOA, we have already read Adam of the Road and The Bronze Bow, as read alouds. We loved both stories!! However, I was wondering if you think he should read them again when we do Preparing...will it be different for him, and will he gain something new since he'll be older and reading them independently? If not, do you have suggestions for books to replace those two titles? Any thoughts are appreciated, from Carrie or anyone else who wants to chime in! :)

inHistiming,

My boys usually love to read books on their own that we have already had as read-alouds. They seem like "old friends" to them. I'd wait until you get there and see how your son feels about reading them then. Sometimes kiddos don't even remember the book very well and another read when they're older feels like a different story altogether.

I hesitate to give you a back-up title even though there are some we considered, as we struggled in finding good, appropriate content for those time periods. It's not as easy as I thought it would be to find good books that don't have overly graphic details, inappropriate content, or too much romance running throughout them!

Blessings,
Carrie

Okay, thanks Carrie. I know I've read books again, after I was older, and really did enjoy them. I doubt it will be a problem. When we do get there we'll decide then. I have plenty of time to research books though, don't I? :?

inHistiming,

If you get there and find the need to replace them, I can work with you to offer some suitable replacement options! But, I'd try to have your son read them on his own as scheduled first, since he hasn't done that yet.

Blessings,
Carrie
