So, do you recommend that I do some sort of phonics instruction after we finish Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons? I noticed that Carrie said that TRL is complete but not 100 EL.
If so, what?

Re: Phonics after 100 EZ Lessons
I used 100 EZ Lessons with my oldest and he just went on reading LOTS of books when he was done. We read through a few pages of Phonics Pathways began in the middle/end), but he didn't really like it so we stopped. By then he was reading grade 3-4 level books just a few months after finishing 100 EZ lessons. I wasn't worried, so we didn't do any further phonics work. He did go through the spelling words in Beyond last year (arranged by phonics rules). This year with Bigger's dictation he is doing a great job and rarely makes a spelling mistake.

Re: Phonics after 100 EZ Lessons
We went straight from 100 EZ lessons to the emerging readers. We also do Explode the Code books to and that is some phonics. We tried to move on to first grade hooked on phonics but he really didn't need it.

Re: Phonics after 100 EZ Lessons
It seems to me that the practice and repetition method of learning rules in 100 EZ Lessons lends itself well to just reading books after that and picking up the rules that are missed through repetition that way. If you have your child read to you and help/teach them through the things they don't know about (some that come to mind that aren't in 100 EZ lessons are a lot of the schwa sounds - every vowel says "uh" - ph, igh, ough) but my DD picked up on them just through reading. We did take a break before starting Emerging Readers but I think that was just maturity. A more mature child could go straight to them I think, especially if you are willing to slow down a bit when things get tough.

Re: Phonics after 100 EZ Lessons
Thanks ladies. I've done it with a bunch of other children and didn't really supplement, just questioning myself I guess.
