Oil Pastels for RTR. . . . .?

Post by momtofive » Fri Feb 24, 2012 11:25 am

I just received our big box from HOD for the upcoming year! :D Well, some of it is for the upcoming year. I purchased RTR for my oldest who is about to finish CTC. He loves HOD so much, he doesn't want to miss out on the last guide, so he's doing CTC at five days per week to make up for lost time in the past! We'll only do this until he's finished with MTMM, then we'll be right on track to just go at a four day a week pace for the rest of the guides! :D

I just have to say that I absolutely LOVE the way RTR is put together. All of the materials are so carefully chosen, and intertwined together with God's Word to create such a beautiful way to learn about this time period. I am so thankful for the talent that God has given to Carrie Austin, to bless all of us with this amazing curriculum! :D

Reading through the guide, I did see that oil pastels will be needed for some of the history projects. I was wondering what others have used, who've done this guide before us? I was thinking about just getting the ones that Miller Pads and Paper sell, but would I need a larger set of colors or a 12 or 24 color set? I just want to have the right thing, so the projects move along smoothly.

Any other helpful supplies, or suggestions on what to do to get ready for RTR, would be much appreciated! Looking forward to another amazing HOD guide.. . . .

Blessings! :D

I used the set of 12 from Miller Pads and Paper and found that to be sufficient! Enjoy RTR! We enjoyed our year with it! One special thing I love about HOD is that the guides seamlessly flow together with skills gradually increasing in difficulty without too much of a jump from one skill to the other. We really notice this at the beginning of the year since for my oldest dd we begin our school year with the final three weeks from the previous guide before jumping into the current school years guide.
Enjoy the projects of RTR!!

Lisa,

Jess did a great job of helping you! :D I agree that the small oil pastel set from Miller works great. :D

I'm thrilled that you have RTR in hand and that you are excited about it for your son. :D We enjoyed it so much last year and are really liking Rev2Rev this year. :D We pray that RTR may richly bless your family. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Carrie and Jess, thanks so much for the helpful information regarding the oil pastels!

It's so nice to have a place like this to be able to ask others questions as they arise. I so appreciate your care and concern for helping others to succeed using HOD! :D Words cannot express what a rich blessing HOD has been to our lives!

Thank you so much!

God Bless!
