How about you look at the placement guide and see what guides each of them would place in that would match their skills? Let us know what that says. Personally after now having started I highly recommend placing them in individual guides. I currently have two in Preparing which is the perfect level for my younger daughter and my older daughter is flying through everything including the extensions which I am not surprised about in the least. We have done it this way as we couldn't afford to get her own guide but are aiming to get her into RtR mid year. I can see that my younger daughter particularly in the things we are doing combined is not going to get the full benefit out because her sister likes to answer the questions alot. I would far rather have her doing more thinking.

There is something strange about this whole post :? One or possibly Two of the posters are fishy in my opinion, by looking at their posting history??? I hope I am wrong and please forgive me if I am... but I think that if the original poster would pleeease SHARe a little more information about each of the following:
1) Where EACH of her children place in the placement chart (first page as Carrie asked last year when this post was started) currently today?
2) Which school year is in question?

Then all of the ladies here would graciously and kindly be able to assist in a more beneficial manner!! :D !! :D
and it would not look so fishy
Thank You

I am thinking maybe you should have started a new thread, since you were thinking of starting it last year and now your kids are older

I'm not sure why this is fishy :? I apologize for any confusion I may be causing. I originally wrote in last year about what to do and decided to go with MFW. Now, half way through my year, I am not satisfied and am once again back where I started with my original question. My two daughters are 8 and 10 1/2. In the fall they will be in 3rd and 6th. My son, 13, will be in 8th. i have looked at the placement charts and i think my 8 yr old will be fine in either Beyond or Preparing and my 10 year old in Preparing or Creation. Now for my 13 year old....i'm thinking of starting him in the new guid for the fall so when he gets to 9th grade he can start the high school program...what do you all think??? What about combining the girls in Preparing....

Thanks,
Alicia

I have placed my DD8.5 in Preparing with my DDnearly11. She is doing quite well, but we are only two days into it. The only thing for her that she hasn't got skillwise is cursive writing and we are working on that. I think if your children have done some form of oral narration and possibly written narration and have good comprehension, I would think quite possibly they will be ok. Have you ever seen the guides etc. If you have you would have been able to see whether your children would be able to cope. Have a good look at the sample week and read through it. I have been surprised that it appeared to be quite alot of reading and yet we seem to be getting through the days quite quickly and each activity is relatively short. I really like it.

Thank you so much for clarifying! And thank you for sharing a bit more about your children :D :D .

Here is a thread on the amount of writing in Bigger vs. Preparing (As I am thinking that you must have meant Bigger instead of Beyond in your last post for your 8yr dd? There is quite a jump in the skills for the 2 ?) viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3602

Do you think your 8yr dd could do the writing required for Preparing? Is she familiar with oral narration? Is she ready to read history and short science readings independently? Is she writing in cursive? I am thinking if she is and you feel she places firmly in Preparing on the placement chart, then you could easily place both daughters in Preparing together and have the older dd(as you stated that she fit in Preparing also?) do the extension pack? They would both be able to do their own level grammar and math.

Then If you feel your 13 yr ds fits into the new guide on the placement chart, I think it would be a good idea to put him there and then he would be ready for the high school guides, and that sounds like a good plan. If he does not fit there on the placement chart (as I personally have found HoD to be pretty meaty, and I don't really know much about your sons skills and level) there are many other options we could look over with him! :D
