5th grader enjoying writing own poetry

Post by beverett » Mon Jan 23, 2012 2:42 pm

GOD is so awesome and He knows exactly what we need!!

I just had to share how exciting things are for us this year with HOD!! This is just one reason we are so very thankful to HOD for how well planned and thought out they are! We absolutely loooooved school last year! I know that I have already shared but want to say again-that we gained back our LOVE for learning and for school last year by being brought here to HOD!

Well, when planning for this current year, I had considered putting my now 5th grader into CTC for 5th grade. We did BIGGER with my 2 middle sons last year (then 2nd and 4th), because we were new to HOD and thought 3 guides was plenty to start off! So once we got into the swing of things and were use to the HOD layout, I considered putting the older of the 2 up into CTC...He placed in CTC on the placement chart. Well I just couldn't decide... what really helped me finally make the decision was knowing that each HOD guide has such important skills woven in and they are progressive so I decided to just let him continue on in order. Hope this all makes sense (it does in my brain?) :D :D . So on to my reason for posting:

My 5th grader is writing poetry on his own!!! He says he loves to write poetry and just does it for fun throughout the week! Who knew?!!! A while back, when he wrote his first poem, I kidded him that one day children/teachers would be saying "Did you know that when Kolton ----- ------- (instead of Robert Louis Stevenson) was a boy, he loved to study birds and watch them outdoors?". What's even funnier about that is that I have noticed he signs his poems with first middle and last name!!! Way to cute, I love it!!

I could have put my 5th grader up into CTC and he COULD have done the work and been fine, but I don't know if he would have developed the love for writing his own poetry that he has know gleaned from going through Preparing and the guides in order!... so I am so thankful to HOD and the way that Carrie has truly thought of everything!

I pray the Lord would bless you and your family for your faithfulness to keep and give glory to HIS name through this beautiful curriculum. We have been so blessed as a family and I could share so many more reasons other that this! Thank you again!

This was such fun to read! Kolton COULD be the next Robert Louis Stevenson - certainly he is on his way to it! :D I'm so glad you are loving the poetry and your year with PHFHG. Thanks for sharing this update!

In Christ,
Julie

P.S. My middle ds is doing PHFHG, and he likes to read his poetry in a microphone for us. The other day my 4 yo stood up and wanted to sing his ABC's. When he finished singing them into the microphone, he said proudly, "By... Emmett Louis Stevenson".

That is so funny!!! You had me laughing (I could so see my kids doing the same things)! They are so wonderful, are they not! Everything you shared and more Julie are the reasons why we as a family are so GLAD that the LORD has allowed us to school our kiddos at home!! I am so thankful, and every time I think about our day and the love and fun we share I get teary eyed and just say a thank you to HIM... also for HOD being a part of that!!! :D :D :D We get to share so much with these precious children, each day is a new adventure together :D :D

Imercom, I agree!! :D
