Singapore Math Manipulatives?

Post by elisabeth » Wed Jan 11, 2012 6:20 pm

We are currently doing LHTH and will be ordering LHFHG in the near future. I was looking on the Singapore Math website and they recommend purchasing the following manipulatives for the kindergarten math: Counters, Multilink cubes, Simple balance, Number cards, Geometric solids, Clock with geared hands, Tangrams blocks
Would it be helpful for me to purchase these also or does LHFHG really not need these tools? Thanks!

You can, but they aren't in the plans. Carrie has planned hands-on activities that use manipulatives that you'll find in your home...like snacks! I did get a few when my older kids got older....base ten blocks and things like that. But not things that we can typically use snacks and stuffed animals and game pieces for instead. :)

Welcome to the board, elisabeth, and ditto to what Tamara said! :D You probably have the needed items in your kitchen, thanks to HOD's considerate planning. It sure saved money for us. We have loved all of the hands-on math plans in HOD, from LHTH to Bigger Hearts. Our oldest ds is starting Singapore 6A, our middle ds is doing 3A, and our little guy is in Earlybird Kindergarten. All are thriving. I think you will enjoy the way HOD has planned and paced Singapore Math each day too! :D

We use dried pinto beans for counters and lego's to create base ten blocks. I think with any math program, you can make most manipulatives with things around your home. We are in 1A/B
