a week at a time? I have done plans both ways (and a myriad of other ways) and in our Heart of Dakota guides up to this point we have shown a daily plan on each two-page spread.

In our newest guide "Preparing Hearts...." we are looking at going to a week of plans on each two-page spread (still divided into days for a 4 day week).

Just interested in your views on this.

Blessings,
Carrie

I would like to see a week on a 2 page spread. I think it would help me when planning my week. I am using LHFHG right now and we have light days on Tues & Wed because of a bible study and a co-op. What I do is put some of the activities from these days onto Thurs. & Friday. My point is, seeing what needs to be done for the week on 2 pages would be very helpful. I hope that makes sense! :D

I think a week on a 2-page spread would be great....also would make for a thinner book.

Carrie,

I have limited experience but, I think being able to view an entire week would be helpful to be able to quickly preview and process the week ahead. It would be helpful to set goals and modify if necessary.

Well, I hate to do it but I'm going to go against the flow and say I like the way the plans are now. One week on the 2 page spread. I think it would be awfully congested to have a full week on 2 pages. I don't see how you could possibly give us as much detail and instructions as we have know ( we are using bigger) I love it the way it is now yet it's all there handy if I want to look ahead it is very easy to do.

Thanks for taking the time to ask us and listening to us.

Not much experience here, but I have to say that I love the way that things are organized now with everything I need for that day on one page. I agree that I like all of the detail that's provided and I like that I don't have to flip around to different pages at all. (That's actually a complaint that I've heard of another popular curriculum.) It seems like it would be hard to keep the all the detail needed without having to refer to other pages maybe? Or maybe not. Anyway, just my 2 cents. I think it's great that you ask!

I like one day on the two page spread. I just take the time on Sunday night or Monday morning once he is working to read through the week. I also really like that I don't have to flip around in the book. I have already looked through Beyond and thought how am I going to keep track of the spelling lists and copy work easily. I am sure it will be fine I just hate flipping around in a books.

I would love to see both. Where it is maybe the week to begin followed by the daily plan. I like this because then I know what I have on the plate for the week. If it works better for me to do two days of history one day and two of science the next day I can now do that easier. I'm thinking why make it in either or in then end I guess it does add some pages but I think it might really be worth it. It gives it the flexibility to work for different kinds of people in the same book. It may increase the cost but it widens the customer base maybe and allows for weird people like me who would love both. But maybe I am a minority?

I agree with water2wine. I would like to have both available. I love how the lessons are currently set up with 2 pages per day, but having the week-at-a-glance would be great, too. But, I'm afraid if I only had the weekly lessons without the daily spread it would not have enough detail for me to follow.

If I have to choose one, I would pick the daily spread, I wouldn't function well without it.

But if I could, I would add the weekly spread at the beginning of each unit to see where I might work ahead on some days and plan my week a bit better. It would also help to ensure I had any needed supplies on hand.

oh, oh.....changing my vote....I think water2wine started something :D

That would be great to have the week at a glance, and then the daily pages for all the details! Who really wants a thinner book anyway?

I love the one day spread.. everything for today right where I can see it all at once. A week would be to distracting.

I'm guilty of reading into the next day lesson and then realizing I read to far.. but it was so interesting! then we just do both days work.

I was thinking maybe you could have PDF files to down load for people who liked the one week at a time thing but, Tom can't think of a way to make it secure without lots of tech.... PDF are so stealable (if that is a word).

I like the idea of a week's worth in one view, BUT...
We rarely, if ever, do monday's work on monday, tuesday's work on tuesday, and on and on. Life happens....:-) Then I need to be able to say, ok, where did we left off?? If it's day format, I can say, oh! we're on day twleve (like I do in the DITHOR book) if it's a week, I end up skipping around and/or duplicating becuase I can't figure out where we left off, iykwim.

Schedule

Post by inHistiming » Mon Jan 14, 2008 8:19 pm

At first I thought a weekly schedule sounded great. Then, I thought about all of the details that are under each heading now and wondered how that could be done with a weekly 2-page spread. I wouldn't want to sacrifice that! So, my preference is the daily 2-page spread.

Another thought I had was this: continue to make the schedule the way it is with each day's plans on two pages. In addition, you could create a weekly schedule as an option for folks to purchase just as we have options for handwriting, reading, etc. That way, there is no "extra" cost to those who will not utilize that schedule, and (I'm guessing) the cost for the weekly schedule would be minimal. Just an idea. Maybe others will add their thoughts.
