Bigger History Notebooking?
Bigger History Notebooking?
Just wondering about how long you spend on history notebooking in Bigger. Last week my dd who is 7 did this page here. You can click on it to see it up closer. It was faster for me to just put it on my blog. It took her 30 min. to do this page. It was Unit 14 Day 5 of Bigger I believe. The box replaced the read aloud history book that is to take only 8-10 min. I would assume it's okay to take longer with NB pgs. One thing I can say is that she rarely has anything misspelled on her pages and hardly ever misses any punctuations marks when she's copying things. My ds 9 is much faster than her, but he will have things misspelled and leave out punctuation at times. Do you think she's taking too long?

I think for a 7 year old who is focussing on doing neat work (and that's a good deal of writing!) that 30 minutes is okay. She's still pretty young and she may speed up as she gets older.John'smom wrote:Just wondering about how long you spend on history notebooking in Bigger. Last week my dd who is 7 did this page here. I agree with heart mom. There was a lot of writing in this page... and she did a great job btw!!
I think that 30 min was acceptable. Also, what a beautiful family you have

Children do speed up all of a sudden with cursive. Then it won't take so long. My sons are older, 9 and 11, and they were still slow with cursive at the beginning of the year. Thankfully, they have both taken off. That is one thing I love about HOD. With my older two, I let them switch to typing too soon, and their handwriting is the worse for it. With the beautiful notebooking pages in HOD, my younger children are practicing their cursive everyday, and it shows! I enjoyed looking at your blog.

Another hearty agreement here! She did a BEAUTIFUL job on her page. Wow! Her cursive is just lovely. 30 minutes doesn't seem too long at all Edwena.
My 9 year old takes that long.

Lovely work, Gracie!
Riley still takes 30 minutes for NBing in PHFHG, but like 8arrows said, I can see him beginning to work more quickly in his cursive writing. I think some dc just LOVE it. Riley is one of those, and I just set the timer for 30 minutes and tell him to shoot for that when it comes to creative work like NBing. I think your dd is doing a good job! If it spread out to 45 minutes or an hour, I think that's too long, but 30 minutes with nice results like dd's - I think that's time well spent. HTH!

Beautiful notebook page! I am so thankful that you posted this because I have the same thing going on here. Sometimes with the science notebooking too. I was definitely wondering how long was too long. I love to see my dc take their time and do a nice job but didn't want them to get bogged down either.

Thanks so much for the replies! Your comments were very kind about dd's work. She does fine with the work in Bigger, but sometimes I think I get a little paranoid that Preparing will be too much with the writing. I don't want the day to drag on. KWIM? As a result, I needed to check with the "experts" here. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.
