How do you do the storytime in your guides?
Re: How do you do the storytime in your guides?
I do them individually, but my youngest is usually around for the Bigger Storytime as well. So she hears them both!

I am using only the storytime from CTC-I would have loved to have the ones from Rev to Rev, but it wasn't in our budget
Anyway, I read to both girls during lunch, or they read it on their own and come to me with any follow-ups.

My oldest 2 two do their storytimes individually. I do Storytime with my younger 2 and then, we do 1 with everyone a couple of days a week.Molly wrote:I have a question with regard to storytime and multiple levels of HOD. Do you do all the read alouds together or do you do them individually?

Re: How do you do the storytime in your guides?
Molly,
We've done it both ways, depending on which guides I have going and how many storytimes.
Typically when we did our storytime together I did the storytime at lunch and used the younger kiddo's storytime as a read-aloud (so as not to read-aloud content that was too mature by reading aloud the older kiddo's storytime to the younger ones). For this year, I am doing LHFHG Storytime and Bigger's Storytime separately with the separate kiddos. This is because my child in Bigger has been in on the storytimes at lunch for years, and now I need him to have his own and really "get" the follow-ups. Then, this year I also have my Rev2Rev child doing his own storytime, and my high schooler no longer has storytime this year.
I also always do the Thornton Burgess books from LHFHG with only the child who is doing that guide.
This is because LHFHG is such an important transition to listening to chapter book style readings (along with the follow-ups) that I want to make sure that no older child jumps in and does the job for the little one by answering the questions or follow-ups for him.
As you can see from this thread, there is great variety in this area which I love!
Blessings,
Carrie

Thank you ladies, that is awesome. The first half of the year shouldn't be too difficult but I am hoping to get an HOD guide for my 6yr old son mid next year. I think it will be great for him, but we just can't afford to do both right now.
