Do your children say their memory verse like this?

Post by countrymom » Sun Oct 30, 2011 4:49 pm

I know movement is very good for memory and learning, but what is with standing on your head? :? When we first started TRL ds tried to read in this position too. I informed him we would NOT be reading while standing on our head. Storytime narration can be interesting too. It is usually accompanied by a couple of somersaults and spins. Am I in good company or is this unique to our house?
p.s. he says his memory verse perfectly :D

I am sorry, but that is too funny! Yes, I do have some wigglers. No on has ever stood on their heads but they do like to move a lot. The more my guy moves the better he retains

Hahahaha!   That is too funny. And yes I have one like that. She is his female counter part. She has to squiggle to learn. :D She is 9 now and slightly less squiggly. Oddly it is really while learning that she is like this. She was more squiggly when she was younger.

This is hilarious! :D All my boys, but one, were wigglers, movers, and shakers! :D Coming from an all-girl family growing up, having 4 sons was a shock to my system. My boys do EVERYTHING physically.

Blessings,
Carrie

This is too funny!! That picture made me LOL!!!! My dd(7) likes to hang upside down from the couch to say her verse!!!! Maybe I'll let her do that for narrations too, maybe they'd get better!!!! Isn't homeschooling wonderful!!

Yes! And she's a girl!

She always thinks better after a few jumping jacks and some push-ups too. Thanks Carrie!

Love the pic!! :D

It's funny, I recently did a blog post on the fact that mine rarely ever just sit in chairs. There isn't much standing on their heads anymore, but that's actually how my oldest son did almost his entire Kindergarten year--on his head. :P

Well that's the first time I've seen memory verses done that way
But if we ever have trouble with a verse, I'll keep that tip in my back pocket.

 That's great! Maybe the blood rushing to his head helps get the verse in there! I have a wiggler too, but she has never stood on her head. :D

Reminds me of my 6-year-old. He always want to do TRL on his head, too. I use that as a bonus if he does well on the day's pages. "If you focus and read well, then you can try reading the same page on your head." He's focusing well and getting extra practice, and I know he is like me and not his father, who cannot read upside-down! We're working on addition facts right now, and he likes to spin as I call out the numbers. Yep. Movers and shakers, indeed!

This is a great picture - love it! :D :D :D My middle ds is my wiggler, but really all 3 of my sons are very active. Like Carrie said, coming from an all girl family, us having all boys was a total shock (and some days still continues to be). I guess if the verse is really going to his head (couldn't resist  ) and to his heart, upside down works. :D

My son is only 3, but that's is exactly what my son does every time he says his AWANA verses! :D He tries to be upside down during the lesson, but we are working on sitting through that. I've been trying to sneak in some LHTH, but he hasn't had the attention span yet. It's so different than my oldest who had an incredible attention span and was reading well at that age. I'm really trying to adapt and let him go at his own pace in his own way, even if that means learning while upside down. I'm glad my kid is not the only one who does that and I don't imagine he will be much less wiggly in the next few years.

 Reminds me of my 13 year old daughter-between the ages of 1 to about 8, she had to hang upside down from the sofa to retain information  She still squiggles a little bit
