Beatrix Potter or Thornton Burgess, who wrote Peter Rabbit?

I'm confused, both Potter and Burgess are credited with Peter Rabbit (and maybe other tales) when I search either. On the set sold here, Potter is not mentioned, only Burgess, but I can see Potter's name on the cover? Is she the artist? I haven't purchased these yet, just trying to understand.

The name "Peter Cottontail" is actually a combination of the names of two Beatrix Potter story characters, Cottontail and Peter Rabbit, from the story "The Tale of Peter Rabbit". "Here Comes Peter Cottontail", a 1971 Easter television special, is a story on how Peter Cottontail became the Easter Bunny.

I could be wrong, but I think Peter Rabbit is a Beatrix Potter book and Peter Cottontail is the Thornton Burgess book. I believe that LHGHG uses both books.

Patty is correct. "The Tales of Peter Rabbit" is by Beatrix Potter, "The Adventures of Peter Cottontail" is by Thornton Burgess.

OK, thanks for clearing that up.

I wonder about the Beatrix Potter books. I don't hear much talk of them but I understand they are in the same set for Little Hearts.... Everyone loves Burgess. I'm so excited to use his books next year. Just curious how the two authors compare since they seem so similar?

I haven't read all the way through one of the Burgess stories yet, but we have read quite a few of the Beatrix Potter stories. One difference I noticed immediately was length of story. The Burgess stories are much longer. They are more like a short novel whereas the Potter stories are short stories. In looking through LHFHG it appears that each of the Burgess books take several weeks (2-5) to complete but the Potter stories just take one day to read. I'm not for sure what the Beatrix Potter edition looks like that comes in LHFHG package, I already had a Beatrix Potter compilation book and one thing about it that stands out are the beautiful color pictures. Beatrix Potter was a wonderful artist. We've read Beatrix Potter stories as bedtime stories quite a bit and they are nice, sweet stories. I'm sure you'll enjoy them
