Our Schoolroom

Post by pjdobro » Tue Sep 27, 2011 4:53 pm

A while back someone had posted asking about everyone's schoolrooms. At the time ours was way too messy to take pictures of it. Well, I finally got it somewhat straightened up and I just got a Photobucket account so it would be easier to share my pictures (hopefully it will be easier  ) We're lucky enough to have an extra room to use for our school. We have a small table that I got when we were just starting. As you can see in the pictures, it is getting kind of small for us and it's time to get a bigger table.

We are lucky enough to have a huge white board. My dh's company closed their offices a couple of years ago, and we were able to get their white board. We just got the big one on the wall about a month ago. We've been using the smaller one on the easel up until this year. It's nice to have both to work with now.

We have several sets of bookshelves. What you can't see in the picture is that we have a whole wall of bookshelves down the left side of the room. Behind the desk where the computer sits is another set of short bookshelves. We are a book loving family and even before we had children or homeschooled, we had a ton of books. Now we really have a lot of books!

That's our room. Just thought I would share. :D

You are blessed :) Right now, our living room and dining area is our schoolroom/office too :| Well, it works for now, but it would be so great to have a room just for school...yours looks great!

That is a really nice room! I love the big window. Our schoolroom is one bay of our two-car garage that we closed in a few years ago. It's a great space except that we have no windows. I'd love to have some natural light. Enjoy!

Wow, I love it! It's so perfect! I don't have a separate school room yet, but I do now have a school bookshelf and set of drawers to keep everything in. I only see it growing from here!

Doing it in our playroom/dining room does make me clean off my table after breakfast though. :D

Wow! That looks great! I agree with how nice that big window is. It seems to be a very pleasant work space for you all. :D :D

We work out of my and dh's bedroom. That way I can keep it somewhat distraction-free for whomever I'm working with while the other two are suppose to be quietly playing. I've got a desk in there, map on the wall, all the books in a neat old wooden encyclopedia box, and some everyday supplies. I'd love to have a dedicated room. I think yours is awesome! :D

Thank you all for your gracious comments. We do enjoy the bright room and the big white board. Occasionally we go more informal and do our lessons in the living room on the couch and often times science experiments end up in the kitchen, but being in the school room seems to help us all focus better. We really are blessed! :D

Your schoolroom inspires great ideas! :D Light - whether you can get it naturally or not so naturally  - is a great way to brighten up a room and make it inviting. The big window is lovely and a neat place for dc to work. We try to open up the curtains and let the light flood in too. I will say I have an office in our basement, and it has only 1 very tiny window, but it is very light and airy. I had my dh put in a lot of recessed can lighting with white ceiling sections and light colored walls and carpet. I put big splashes of color in nooks of the room with cheap area rugs from Walmart to add cheery color (brown background with large hot pink, orange, and cream flowers - hey - SOMETHING has to be pink in my house  ), and a bright reading lamp, and even though it's in a room with practically no natural light, its bright and cheery. So, if you have no windows to work with gals - adding some artificial lighting, painting the room a light color, finding some bright lamps, and adding some cheerful rugs can go a long way to create that light and airy feeling too. :D I LOVE your big whiteboard. I bet you use that a TON! We do school in our living room, dining room, and kitchen, so I use small mobile whiteboards, but if I had a spare wall to hang one permanently in a room dedicated to school - I would soooooo do that in a heartbeat. Thanks for sharing this, as it gets our creative juices flowing. As homeschooling moms, we get to create the atmosphere of learning, and even small dark spaces can be made cheerful with a few creative changes. Your pics provide great ideas to try! :D
