New Beyond Family and Bible References

Post by jillg » Sun Sep 18, 2011 11:49 am

Hello

Thank you all for your input on supplies that might be helpful to have around the house when doing the art, science or geography sections.

Now, we are perusing the first week's lesson and would like to know how do you cross reference the bible verse highlighted for that day. For example, if I'm looking at the two children's bible story books that are highlighted in the curriculm (we have both at home) each bible story is titled and goes by page number in the table of contents.

I'm certainly not a seasoned biblical scholar so forgive what might seem like a silly question. The first bible verse referred to in the first day of the curriculm is Psalm 4:8 without a page number crossed referenced for use in the children's bible story book. Are these two bible story books what I should be using to follow along? These stories are much more user friendly for the child than only using a bible verse straight from the bible and so I was hoping to guide our lesson around the child friendly bible stories rather than trying to use the more difficult scripture directly from the bible.

Thanks for any input.

Jill

The bible study portion of Beyond, I believe has only one devotional time scheduled per week (look on day 3) . The rest of the time is devoted to Scripture Memorization. In response to Psalm 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

So this portion is to help them exercise their long term Memory and fill up their hearts with God word. If you can find a Kids story bible with the psalm in it more power to you! I always like to read scripture in context. :D Scripture Memorization tally's quiet nicely with the music portion of School, and helps them to memorize it even faster.

Here is a link to the verse, maybe here you can find a translation that will be easier For your dc (dear child) to memorize.
http://www.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cf ... &c=4&t=KJV click the little V on the left hand side of the verse.

Give it a try and see how it goes, My DD's both love it and belt out bible verses at each other for fun on some days.

Hi,

We are using a NIV kids' study Bible for our memory verses. Are you trying to find the verse in the Bibles from the emerging reader's set? We only have The Early Reader's Bible, and there's no way to use it for scripture verses assigned in Beyond as it's meant to be used as a reader. At least that's how I'm understanding it. I've found that when it comes to memorizing the verses, the days where a physical activity is assigned, such as jumping jacks or something like that and then saying the verse, is the day the verse really seems to stick with my daughter. We also do a Bible journal where I write the verse down on an index card and she copies it into her journal and draws a picture to illustrate the verse. If a verse seems too long, and I've seen a few, I plan on breaking it down into parts for easier memorization. So far though, she's been able to memorize the verses as written in the NIV.

Jill,

I'm so glad that you'll get a chance to use Beyond! :D The ladies are right in that the provided Scripture references are for the child to find the verse in his/her Bible and use to memorize the verse. The kiddos also sing many of these same verses on the Hide Em in Your Heart CD, which really helps aid memorization. :D

The two children's Bibles sold in Beyond (The Early Reader's Bible and The Beginner's Bible) are scheduled for the child to read to you as part of the Emerging Reader's Set. Kiddos actually use one Bible or the other along with the scheduled pages in the Emerging Reader's Schedule in the Appendix of the Beyond Teacher's Guide. The daily schedule in the Appendix tells the child what pages to read to you each day and includes follow-up questions for you to ask the child after the reading. :D The Emerging Reader's Set is for those students who have completed phonics instruction and are ready to read real books aloud to you. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
