Child's History of the World

Post by wow8kids » Wed Sep 14, 2011 11:11 am

Can someone please tell me the copyright date of this book that matches up with the Preparing guide? My son does this independently, and while I know other editions will work, I really need the one that matches the guide. Strangely, the isbn and the copyright are not listed on the website with the book. :?

Hi wow8kids - I hope you have a wonderful year with PHFHG! :D The "Introduction" part of PHFHG has this to say about CHOW...

History ‘Star’ Resources (Required)
*A Child’s History of the World by Virgil M. Hillyer (Calvert Education
Services, 1997) Note: This text is available in several different versions, but
only the 1997 version matches with the page numbers in this guide and
includes the additional end chapters needed for this study.

Usually any book that has multiple versions available will have a notation such as this in the introduction of a guide. HOD always carries the edition that is needed for the plans. HTH, and good to see ya here! :D

Some of the 1997 versions don't match up either unfortunately. Two years ago when we did Preparing I had a 1997 Calvert version but it was still different so I ended up ordering one from HOD because it would require alot to figure out the page differences and you would have to have both books in your hands to do that. The version that HOD has is 7" by 9.5". It is a nice size for reading :D .

Great! Thanks so much!

And our year is not going well so far, but it has to do with us putting on an addition to our house and not getting a strong start to school. But, thank the Lord for HOD - my kids can do so much of it independently after getting a good start with it last year!

Ohmigosh, basesloaded! That's confusing, isn't it. No wonder I'm having such a hard time. :( Oh, well. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and order it. With all we've had going on this year, financially, I'd hoped to avoid that, but I can't seem to do a search for this particular version in that way on the used book sites I normally use.

So if I have the smaller sized 1997 version, will it be hard for me to use it with the guide?
I just picked one up at a used bookstore. I didn't realize that it would be a different size.

I had 3 different 1997 versions and the only one that worked was the HOD one ... I am not sure if the ISBNs were different but here is the ISBN from my HOD copy 978-888287-02-8-7. I am assuming a copy that is not the "size" of this one couldn't possibly match up page number wise simply because of the different page size. I had no idea the books were different sizes until I got my HOD copy ... you can't tell from pics but I must say it is such a nice size to open and read :D.
