What I don't like is that MIL is also a friend, and on that post, as well as privately, wrote to me and told me I should put DD in public school because "at least she'd have a positive motivation" while at home. Oh well. It's a chance to bless those who persecute me, I guess. That's easier said than done, but the right thing to do, nonetheless.
I'm really sorry Heidi that you even got that negative input from your MIL. It's really tough when you don't have good support from close family like that. I wanted to share with you that when we first started homeschooling my MIL and FIL were not at all fond of the idea and I got the occasional negative comment as well and often felt their disapproval. This last spring when they were out, my MIL told me what a great job I was doing teaching the kids and how well they were doing. That about floored me, but it felt so nice that she had finally come around to seeing the positive side of homeschooling and approved of our choice. My MIL passed away suddenly at the end of July and I am so happy to have had that conversation with her. I know you don't have to have the approval of your in-laws, but it really helps to have that support. Hang in there and do what you know is right. Eventually you'll earn the approval of those around you through doing the right thing and having a cheerful attitude even when their comments are negative. Even if they don't ever come around know in your heart that you are doing the right thing. In the meantime when you do have the bad days, as we all do, feel free to vent to us who have been there done that. :D
