organizing for Beyond...any help???
organizing for Beyond...any help???
Hi, I will be starting Beyond with my 6 and 8 yr old DD's...I am not sure what binders, notebooks, etc that I need. I read through the intro a couple times in the guide but still not sure??? I looked at My3sons pics of how she set up Bigger but I think you need different items at that level.
Can anyone please tell me what worked for you and what didn't. How do you store all of their art projects and is there any history or science notebooking?
Thanks so much for any suggestions!
I am also setting up CTC for my older 10 DD. That seems a little more clear in the guides but any sharing of what worked/didn't work for you would be great!
Thanks again!
In Him,
Elizabeth

Re: organizing for Beyond...any help???
I'm sure there's lots of ways to do it. We're using a notebook for our poetry copywork. It's the kind with writing lines on the bottom half, blank on top for drawing. Then he has a 3 ring binder with page protectors for his timeline, storytime narrations/dictations, art pieces, and anything else he wants to keep. We use an index box with cards for Bible verses and spelling (with dividers). And, a whiteboard, that's it.

We used a 3-ring binder for Beyond. I had tabs for copywork, history (also included art, science, and geography papers), storytime, and English. They each had a folder to store papers in until I got around to adding them to the binders. We had notecards for spelling lists and metal rings to keep them on. I also had our Bible verses on notecards too. We had 15x11 (I think) sheets of cardstock for our timelines. We also used our dry erase boards quite a bit!

Yeah I just have a notebook. I am keeping the timeline, I will put it in her notebook when we are done with it. Every week she puts her poetry copywork and any drawings we've done for storytimes or the poem. I too use the page protectors. I make big cards with the memory verse on them each week so she can practice... still haven't figured out what we're doing with those.
The crafts - I take pictures and throw them away. Maybe I should keep them, the flat ones would fit in the page protectors. At least 2 of them involved folding and wouldn't fit in the notebook anyway.
I've only done 6 weeks of Beyond, not sure what lies ahead!

Re: organizing for Beyond...any help???
We're on our second week and we are using lots of index cards, both white and colored, an index card organizer, and a notebook. We made our timeline from poster board, but you will need white copy paper for other things. You need some sort of journal for copywork and maybe a folder for keepsakes. I would also get some paints, if you haven't already.
We are not doing poetry copywork until after Christmas, but we are creating a poetry journal. I just bought a 3-pronged folder and we're keeping a copy of each poem, her illustration of the poem, and I'm printing out a picture of each author to go along with the poetry and we're creating a journal/binder so she'll have a nice poetry collection at the end of the year. One thing I added was a Bible journal. Since we aren't doing the poetry copywork right now, I bought one of those notebooks that has the lined paper with a blank space on top. She writes the memory verse for the week and then illustrates what it means to her. This was something I thought would be a great keepsake for her along with the poetry. Hope this helps some.

Re: organizing for Beyond...any help???
This has been so helpful! Thanks! So, here is what I'm thinking so far...
A 3-ring binder with a copywork, history/geography (do they have any papers for geography ?), art, science, english, storytime...am I missing anything?
Then I bought those composition journals at Wal-mart with the blank space at the top for poetry copywork and illustrations.
Index cards for Bible and a little box to keep them in...not the recipe box kind though. Do I need that kind or do we just store the memory verse cards for review later?
For spelling, I think I'll just use a ring or if I do the recipe box style could store them behind the Bible verses.
What do you think? Am I missing anything?
Also, someone recommended paints. What kind of paints do they need to have available?
Thanks everyone !

Re: organizing for Beyond...any help???
Our index binder is not a box, it's the flip up kind with like a stretchy band that wraps around it to keep it closed. It came with dividers, so I am keeping her spelling words on colored cards, and math subject work on white cards and use the dividers. To keep it from getting too full, I pull out the spelling words we're done with and just put them in a baggie for review later in the year. Not sure if there is a lot of geography/history paperwork since we're only in our second week. For our memory verse, I just write it on a white index card and then actually use it as our bookmark in the TM. This way it's always handy and I don't lose my spot in the TM every day. Then I toss it at the end of the week because she's writing all her verses down in the Bible journal we're making, so I don't need the card anymore. For paints, I just bought some from walmart. It says Cra-Z-Art on the stands. They are 12 small bottles in a plastic stand. I think they're just basic washable paints, but they're not the watercolor palette kind. They're actual little bottles, and they're pretty much impossible to get out of the plastic stand which is why I bought it. She tends to leave paint everywhere when it's single bottles. We used them the first week with the shield. Hope this helps some more. I understand the craziness that is organization. Last week our dining room table looked like it threw up HOD materials, as I was trying to figure everything out. LOL4arrows wrote:This has been so helpful! Thanks! I did a quick glance though it to revive my memory, No maps to draw Geography is mostly looking and finding The history activities are Art projects.
we used a card file for bible verses, and spelling words.
A ring binder for History, A poetry journal that she used over 2 years (and she loves looking at how her handwriting has improved).
Some page protectors cause they are handy to put stuff in.
Its not much you need.
