Bigger Hearts?

Post by coconuts » Tue Apr 15, 2008 8:29 pm

I'm a little confused on what I need for BHFHG(Bigger).
I got the economy package with science already, and I know I need to get English math and Bible from the basic package.
I'll have 2 students doing it with extension so I need that also.

Now, it offers me optional book packs in the Delux package for the storytime part of the plans- is this the same as the optional book packs for DITHER, or do I need those too?
And if I have students doing DITHER that are in 4th and 5th,do I do something different than the level 2 or 3 optional book packs?

Have I confused you too?
This will be my first time doing HOD, so please forgive me for sounding ignorant. I've never done anything like DITHER either.

I asked almost the same question...
http://www.heartofdakota.com/board/view ... highlight=
That thread should answer your question about DITHOR and story time confusion. (At least it helped me! :D )
I think you'll want a more experienced mom to help you with your specific question about DITHOR. I haven't started it yet with my oldest...but I'm getting it next weekend and planning to start soon! (Woohoo! :D ) I would highly suggest getting the book list as I think it has great book selections for all of the 9 genres that also tells you what reading level they are. The books in the "Green 3" pack in the book shop range from 4th to 5th grade reading levels (I think...I've only really studied the ones in the "Green 2" pack).

Hope that helps some!

coconuts,

The Deluxe Packages for "Bigger..." are for you to read aloud to your students. These book packs are optional, as you can choose your own books to read aloud if you desire. We do give suggestions in the Appendix of "Bigger...". However, if you want to have the choosing done for you, you can use one of the Book Packs for reading aloud. :D

As to the optional Book Packs for DITHR, you can again choose to use these to make your life easier, or you can choose your own books. DITHR truly works with any book you choose. For Level 4/5, we have not put together any book packs, but we do have a Sample Book Ideas List that gives suggestions if you desire that. It is available for $5.00 on our website. The DITHR books are books your children read to you.

Blessings,
Carrie

Thank you for answering my questions. Now I need to break the news to them(3 in Bigger) that they don't get to each choose a bookpack for story time. One wanted the classic books, one the girl interest, and one the boy interest! I'm going to have to mix and match.

I have that same problem...only it's ME that wants to do all 3! We're going the mix-n-match route as well, but it was soooo hard to choose. :? Good luck with narrowing it down!

coconuts,

You only NEED one book for each genre, but if you're a family who loves reading aloud, you can always read more than one for each genre! It's completely up to you! :D

books!

Post by lovetobehome » Mon Apr 21, 2008 7:35 am

I got a notebook, wrote out every book needed for every option of Bigger and DITHR and then checked off what I had. I had enough from those packages to cover each genre, some girl interest, some boy, some classic. So I decided not to buy more, but I plan to use the library and get as many as I can, as my son will read everything you give him. I figure what I can't read aloud, he will read on his own. I can't wait for my guide to arrive!

Meg,

It sounds like you have a great plan! :D We also have our new catalog going to the printer this Wednesday, so it should be shipping out in about 2-3 weeks. That will save you the list making time in the future, as it will list all of the books recommended in our packages!

Meg,

You are so right that the ladies on the board are like a HOD family. It is a much-missed aspect of life for homeschool moms to feel genuinely cared about by other like-minded ladies. We are so grateful for the moms on the board who are committed to making that happen here! 8)

I'm excited for you to get "Bigger..." too. We're still loving it even as we're headed into the home stretch with it at our house. We pray you will too.

Blessings,
Carrie

Very, very cool!

I agree about the atmosphere here--the curriculum, the ladies, the conversation--all of it has felt like coming home for me. You just don't know...or, I guess you do, or you wouldn't be here :)

Thanks again, Carrie!

Hi Jen, we just got home from Wmsbg, visiting!
Anyway, yes, I have been through quite a few different curricula, and communities, and I just like it here. I keep coming back just to visit the boards. I do feel like it is a small family. I think we yearn for that as homeschooling moms. Now if only our kids could get together and play....
