Watercolors from CTC
Watercolors from CTC
We've really been enjoying the watercolor/poetry part of CTC! I helped my DS with the first one, and he has done the rest by himself. It's been great for this perfectionist mom to sit back and see what he is capable of doing on his own. I just love how they're turning out.

Thanks so much for posting these pictures! I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying the watercolors and poetry in CTC! I thoroughly enjoyed watching my own son do his paintings last year in CTC too. It was good for me to "let go" of the art part too, as I can be a bit of a perfectionist myself!
Blessings,
Carrie

Great paintings. Thanks for sharing! We are enjoying the watercolors as well. ALL of us (even the 2 yo ) paint. My 11yo has always hated art and is actually enjoying these assignments. The directions are just specific enough that he doesn't feel pressured to come up with an idea on his own, but can still feel like he is being creative.

Thank you SO Much for posting! I will come back to these posts when we start school. My dd is very visual and I am NOT artistic, so some examples will be helpful.

Re: Watercolors from CTC
Thanks Carrie! I'm happy to share. Momofthree, I did allow my son artistic license for the paintings in CTC. For instance, he asked if he could make copies of some fall leaves and glue them on for Unit 10. So I did allow him to tweak them a little according to his inspiration. Just letting you know to keep that in mind when you are using them as a visual reference. I think the beauty of the painting lessons in CTC is that they all turn out so pretty no matter how the child interprets it.

Thanks so much for these photos! I wasn't quite sure what the pasture spring was supposed to look like so needed a visual to make sure. Great job! ...and thanks for the input on letting go of the perfectionist attitude. I also liked the story about the 3 men going to the art exhibit. I'm going to share that with my dd!

Re: Watercolors from CTC
Thanks for posting these pictures. We're excited to do CtC this year. What brand and kind of watercolor do you use? What size of watercolor paper do you use? Do you recommend buying the individual paper or the spiral pad? Thank you.
Re: Watercolors from CTC
Welcome to the HOD Board! We're glad to have you here. The "Introduction" of CTC includes a list of needed art supplies for the watercolor painting lessons in CTC. Here is a link to the Introduction: http://www.heartofdakota.com/pdf/CTC-Introduction.pdf
You'll have to scroll through the Intro. to find the supplies list. As far as answering your questions go, I'd advise using the loose sheets of paper rather than the spiral bound. However, if the papers in the spiral bound booklet have a straight perforated edge, so the pages can be torn out that would work. It is just necessary to be able to work on only one sheet of watercolor paper at a time.
As far as the watercolor paints go, you may wish to check out those sold by Miller Pads and Papers. They are very reasonably priced and good quality.
Blessings,
Carrie
