So excited!!!!

Post by psreit » Wed Aug 17, 2011 11:06 am

My dd has had many struggles with reading and writing(mainly due to vision problems and eye tracking). But there have been concerns about her math skills(processing and understanding). She is only working in PM 1A right now, because simple addition has been taking a while. I was working on addition with her today and had her using counters. I began showing her how she could do the problems faster by thinking it in her head (ex. 5+2, think 5 in your head and add(count) two more. She became very frustrated at first, but then, all of a sudden.....it clicked!!!!! Now she is doing some addition in her head(mental math??) instead of counting out every single number with the little stones we use. I kept praising her and she wanted to do more in her head even when her lesson was finished. I am so relieved and encouraged that she is understanding something. It seemed like we weren't making any progress in the math area. I think she will be more excited about doing math now! :D :D

I'm so happy for you and your dd! :D It can be hard when a child takes a long time for something to click (I've been there!!!), but it's oh-so-exciting when they start to "get it". :D
Blessings,
Elisabeth

Yeah! That is so awesome. I understand the excitement as a teacher and mother when things finally click for our dc. I'm rejoicing with you on this milestone! :D

Thanks for the sentiments. :) Yes, it is a reminder to be patient. Some days I would think, 'Is she ever going to get this?' I wanted to share that later we went to town to run some errands, and while we were driving, dd was still asking me to give her addition problems. Sometimes she will use her fingers for help with bigger numbers, but we are still excited about the progress. I'm so thankful! :D

Hi Pam,
Yay!! You know I'm right there with ya! :) We started school this past Monday. We have strugged a bit too, but must say HOD has been so great for my kiddos and amazing for my child with developmental issues. Praise the Lord!
Blessings!!

Good Job to both of you!
How you described working with your dd made me think of how God must be happy when we "finally" get a concept!
