Hello from Ruth in FL

Post by Ruth in FL » Fri Apr 18, 2008 3:21 am

Hello Everybody!
My name is Ruth.As you can see by my post, I live in Florida. I just joined the board yesterday, but I have been lurking for about two months.
I have been a homemaker for twenty years. I am finishing up my 14th year of homeschooling.
I am a mother to five. My oldest is married to a US soldier and has two boys, my oldest son is my homeschooling guinea pig who graduated last year. My next son is graduating next year. I have two more girls, 14 and 10.

I will be using BIGGER with the 10 year old. I am going to follow the history schedule and get older living books for my other daughter. In that way, we are studying the same thing, just at different levels.

I had seen this curriculum several years ago, but decided to use My Father's World instead. I enjoyed it, but it is time for a change. I have used so much over the years!! I love the living books approach and did my own planning for many years, but honestly, I am all "planned out".
HOD was just what this tired homeschooler was looking for!

I look forward to getting to know you all and hopefully be a blessing. Your posts have certainly blessed me. You would think after 14 years this whole homeschool thing would be a piece of cake, but I sometimes struggle with issues you younger moms post about!

So, I have to go now. Today is a co-op day for our family. With only one bathroom and six people, you have to be quick!!

Ruth

Hi Ruth,

Welcome, it's so nice to meet you :D My name is Mary and I am Mama to four boys. I also am from Florida (Pinellas) and we are finishing up our 10th year of homeschooling.

I have used a multitude of curriculums over the years and have so many wonderful memories tucked away in my heart. Heart of Dakota holds a very special place though. This is the program that has everything I've ever wanted scheduled out nice and neat.

There are quite a few of us here in my area who are just getting started with HOD. God Bless You and Welcome!

In HIS Love,
Mary

PS- Are you near Pinellas?

Hi Ruth! :D I remember you from the MFW boards. I only used their K program, but visited the boards often. We're always glad to have a veteran among us as most of us are just in the first few years.

Welcome!

Welcome Ruth! Wow! You have some serious homeschooling experience. I look forward to hearing about your experience and learning from you. Welcome to the board. I can't wait to hear what an experienced mom like you shares about HOD. :D

Welcome Ruth. I too am new to this board and HOD and still very new to homeschooling as well. I just wanted to tell you how much your post blessed me already. I tried planning my own curriculum, was considering trying MFW, and decided to use HOD instead. It encourages me so much in my decision to see a veteran who has done all of the other things decide to use HOD. I look forward to learning more from all of your experience.

Ruth,

I just wanted to pop-in and welcome you! We're glad to have you here! :D

It's wonderful to see the wide variety of homeschool moms we have on the board and using HOD. It makes the community of HOD so much richer! I cannot believe I will be finishing my 19th year of teaching this year either (11 years in public school and 8 years of homeschooling). You described my sentiments in writing the HOD guides exactly when you said:
I have used so much over the years!! I love the living books approach and did my own planning for many years, but honestly, I am all "planned out". HOD was just what this tired homeschooler was looking for!
Welcome!

Blessings,
Carrie
