Spelling surpasses dictation level

Post by Mumkins » Mon Aug 01, 2011 6:38 pm

My oldest spells OK, but I can tell by looking at the dictation lists that she can spell much better than she'll be able to do with dictation. I think she needs spelling help though. Do I add a spelling program? I think she'd benefit in her writing from doing dictation. Would doing both be too much?

Some kids successfully do both. Or you could up the level of dictation.

I did both and found it to be too much and unnecessary. I dropped the extra spelling and found dictation did the job better anyway. Dictation has taught my ds to spell well within his own writing - the ultimate goal anyway. I think I'd try the first level of dictation with your dd and see how she does. HTH! :D
