How do I set up a notebook for Preparing?

How do I set up a notebook for Preparing?

I am wondering what to include in setting up a student notebook for Preparing. I don't understand how to divide it up and what exactly goes into the notebook. Or do they even need a notebook?

We used 3-ring dividers for each subject - science and history. I used tab dividers in each. For science the sections were; notebooking, experiments, and answers to questions. For history the sections were; notebooking, projects (I cut all paper down to 8 1/2 X 11 for the "flat" projects), and independent history. We also had a third binder that contained poetry writing and extras that we did on our own. We used a file card box for vocab. We used comp. books for math, grammar, dictation, and the common place book.

Is there a lot more "stuff" for Preparing than Bigger? I'm getting ready to get school supplies for this next year. We have one of the 2 inch binders for History and Science notebooking, Science experiments, and art.... I'm thinking I put one more thing in there? I can't remember what it would be? Then I have a composition book for LA (which is DITHOR and R&S) and one for poetry, which I plan on using again in Preparing. We use index cards for Vocab and Bible verses.

I am new to HOD and will be starting Preparing soon, too, so have been wondering the same thing. When I've looked through the guide, it seems I will need a composition book with lines at times, another with half lines half blank, and also a blank composition book (no lines)...and all of these for one subject! It's a bit confusing! :?

For instance....Science Exploration suggests an unlined notebook (though they are to write in cursive on no lines???), then there is the science lab sheet (which seems easier to use than making their own each time). Then there is the the History Notebook for the drawing/painting, as well as cursive writing on some days. (Do you use one for drawings and another for the the handwriting/copywork or do you use the same notebook?) Then there is the Common Place book. For Language Arts, I'm figuring on a R&S Notebook, a notebook for the creative writing/poetry assignments, and a separate one still for Dictation. Then, still another one for written narrations and vocabulary. If I'm adding these up correctly, that is 10 or 11 notebooks, or am I supposed to be combining some of these assignments. I did go out and purchase the composition books very inexpensively and like the look of them (because they are easily decorated for each subject), but have still been somewhat unsure if I'm figuring all of the notebooks right.

Would love to hear what others have done, especially if you have NOT used a 3-ring binder with dividers (since we weren't going to do that - though may reconsider if it does seem to be the best way!)

For the science books when it called for unlined paper I took the unlined paper and used a ruler to make straight lines to do writing of Bible verses and quotes. This may have made my work more difficult but it helped my son and I am all for school success. I had originally planned to use another notebook I had for the drawing through history pages but ds could not visualize how to draw the vertical picture horizontal so I used lined paper for writing and computer paper for drawing . I put the pages in page protectors and made a book out of it with 3 brad paper folder (not ring binder). I like paper protectors and put copies of DITHOR in one and lab sheets in another protector.I had a commonplace notebook for bible verses and quotes. I used lined sheet of paper for dictation. I wrote question on back of science lab sheet due to ds's learning problems. I folded index cards in 1/2 for timeline and I had an index card box for vocabulary. Tammy
