Can I use R&S 3 w/ Bigger
I ordered Bigger w/ extensions for my to-be 4th grade twins for the upcoming year so we can finish America History, and also because Carrie recommended it for my kiddos. I haven't received it yet, but I noticed on the sample that Bigger uses R & S 2. We used 2 last year so I wanted to move to R & S 3 this year. Can I use 3 w/ Bigger? Any tips would be appreciated:).

We used R&S 2 with Beyond last year, so we'll be doing R&S 3 with Bigger. I think it can be easily substituted.

Absolutely!
You can just do a lesson a day and should come out about right. Or, some moms just get PHFHG and follow the schedule from that, but it really isn't hard to schedule on your own otherwise. We are on the tail-end of finishing Bigger Hearts - what fun is ahead of you!

Julie,
I see your 8 year old is just finishing Bigger. I haven't seen it yet(expecting it today) but do you think that the activities in Bigger will be challenging enough for 10 yr olds if I'm using R & S 3? My twins will be 10 in Jan. Doing Bigger this year will also put us at the edge of the age limit for preparing next year too. Also do I need to purchase a spelling program to go with it?
thx!!

Hi Amy,
I will just step in real quick for Julie, since I know she has been busy.
Julie is the authors sister and her children have done HOD all the way through I am pretty sure. Usually when you are new to HOD, they recommend you go a guide lower so that your student will flourish. It is always better to feel confident in what you are doing vs floundering when it is over your head. Usually, if Carrie placed you, the placement is spot on.
As for spelling, nope. Everything you need is in the guide. Dictation has really helped my son spell much better.
There are some posts about the success of dictation out there...i am sure u will b linked to rhem.
Hth,
Mercy

That makes sense. I just want to make sure they will be challenged. That's awesome that I don't need spelling:). Not-so-patiently waiting for my pkg to get here now. I can't want to look at it!:D

Thank you so much, Mercy!
And she is exactly right in her advice.
Riley is still finishing out Bigger Hearts this coming year, and will be close to 9 yo. He's done HOD from the start, so that does make a difference. Also, Bigger Hearts was very much a challenge for him. I think it will be just right for your twins.
