OT - what to do w/sick child besides TV?!

Post by tbarr12 » Fri Jul 08, 2011 6:40 am

I have yet another sick child, and am wondering about ideas for her to do while she's sick other than watch TV. When any of my kids is sick, I understand that they don't feel like playing, etc., but the fact that the TV is on all day, and that the other kids watch it with them as a result, just about drives me crazy! How do any of you handle this?

How about books on CD? You can find them cheap at most book stores or check your library~many of the children's classics are on CD. I have a little stock pile that I keep for the kids when they need some down time. Hope that helps! ~Holly :)

How about latch-hooking? :D Cross-stitching? Coloring? Dot-to-dots? Build K-nex or legos? I'm so sorry you have a sick child. May the Lord heal her and help her through this. :)

We did make a run to the library today and got some books and books on CD. That helped get us through most of the day. She's a little old for coloring and KNex (almost 12), and unfortunately isn't into crafts AT ALL. But I was happy to see that the kids all were kept from the TV for most of the day. Yay for a small victory!

Yeah books would be my backup. Or crafts. The same thing would happen here, if one of them gets to watch TV all of a sudden I've got 3 zombies in my living room.

May I just pop in here to say I hope your DD is feeling better first off and secondly, nobody is too old to color. My mother is proof. She is 65 years old and colors with the kid's coloring books. She says it's her down time/mental therapy and loves it. :P

I have to agree with you. When I would come home from college for Christmas, my sister and I would get a new Christmas coloring book (there was just something so magical about that to me!), and we'd spread it out on the floor. She'd take one side, I'd take the other, and we'd color together! One of my favorite memories!
