Beyond Little Hearts to Bigger Hearts

Post by ashley3 »

I have been doing Beyond Little Hearts this year with my dd and I am planning to use Bigger Hearts next year. I have just one question, does Bigger Hearts use the reading choices as Beyond Little Hearts?

Thanks!

Ashley,

I think the selections in the emergent reader's list in the appendix of Beyond...is the same as in Bigger...but I don't think any of the other reading selections would be the same. We are using Beyond... now and I have the Bigger...package here waiting for when we finish. I have not run across any of the same books besides what I've mentioned. HTH

Ashley,

InHisTiming did a great job of helping you! :D I'll move your post over to the main board, so other ladies can answer you too!

The folder you originally posted in is for experience/testimonial type posts.

I think I know what your're wondering...

IF your child is STILL an emerging reader, what emerging reader books do you use for Bigger?

I was wondering the same thing!

I have the same question. And if I'm understanding correctly, for Beyond will be using the SAME books and schedule as in Bigger? That would be great since I haven't been using the Bigger emerging schedule yet and was thinking the Beyond emerging reader schedule would be advanced for my DS.

Ok, I did some reading on the HOD web site and answered my own question.

Here it says the emerging reader set/schedule is the same in Beyond and Bigger. http://www.heartofdakota.com/emerging-reader.php

That makes it easy for me so I'll just continue what we are doing with Beyond then do the emerging schedule with Bigger. :D

The schedule for emergent readers is the same in Beyond...as in Bigger... If you've done Beyond...and finished the schedule, and your child is still an emerging reader, you could move on to Bigger...and use the supplemental reader that is suggested for each unit. You would just have to come up with your own questions for those. Otherwise, you could move on to DITHOR, as it is written for 2nd-8th grade students.

So, if I choose to go with DITHOR I would use that instead of the emerging reader schedule but with Bigger so I would get the history, geography, etc. that is in Bigger? Or does Drawn incorporate all of that too?

wisdom4us,

Yes, DITHOR is a separate reading program, for those students who are independent readers instead of emergent readers. You would still need the Bigger...manual for the History, Science, Geography, etc.

Ladies,

It sounds like you have it all figured out! Just to clarify once more, you do phonics first, then the emerging reader set (same schedule in "Beyond.." and "Bigger..." for that set), then move on to DITHR with the Level 2 Book Pack. You can just move fluidly from phonics, to emerging reader set, to DITHR whenever your kiddos are ready, instead of having to start it at the beginning of the year.

DITHR is the literature study portion of our guides. It is your reading program (once your kiddos are reading fairly independently). So, you still the need the other guides to fill-in the rest of your subjects. :D

Thanks Carrie. That's kind of what I was thinking throughout today - we'd start with emerging then move onto Drawn when the time was right. :)
