We are so excited to start HOD this fall! I will be using Preparing with dd 9 and now feel led to have dd 13 use HOD also. After looking at the placement chart over and over I see that she would fit perfectly in RTR skill wise. However, I wondered if I should start her with CTC w/ extensions so she gets the whole picture of history starting with creation. We haven't studied that time period for several years so it wouldn't be a lot of repeated information.
I am torn because RTR looks so great and I already have several of the resources and I think she would be the perfect age for the Bible devotional book. I just thought I would throw this out before I bought RTR.
Any thoughts?

Re: Not sure where to place dd 13
I would put her where she places and not worry about the whole cycle. My 13 year old daughter will be doing RTR this year also. If it really bothers you, you could buy the spine from CTC and have her read it over the summer.

I agree with 8arrows.
Now, if she is "stretching" to fit into RtR, and there are some things that you aren't sure about, then CtC may be best. But if she solidly places in RtR, then that is the route to go. She will get the ancient history in a few years so I wouldn't worry about the cycle.
You will have a lot of fun either way you go!

I'm nodding my head to the wonderful advice already given here!
As long as dd fits into RTR best according to the placement chart, that is hands-down where she should start.
I'm so glad your dc are going to get to do HOD. Ours are enjoying their homeschooling so much, and I am too. We have done both RTR and PHFHG - you have some great days ahead of you!

Julie

Thank you ladies for your wonderful advice. I am going to order RTR for her as I had planned. She fits in here perfectly and she is so excited to start her new year as an independent learner. HOD is such a blessing to our family!
