Preparing's Aesop's Fables vs. a version I own

I already own a copy of Aesop's Fables. It is Illlustrated by Fritz Kredel and is the Illustrated Junior Library Edition by Grosset & Dunlap. It has 143 Fables. The fables are on 1-2 pages with illustrations. I'm wondering if this version will work with Preparing Hearts for His Glory, or if I should just go ahead and get the Classic Treasury of Aesop's Fables listed under the basic package. I guess the biggest concern is IF my version will have the fables used for Preparing and if the language will be the same?

If anyone could give me a recommendation that would be great! I bought this book a few years ago when I found out about Charlotte Mason and was reading some books about her. I don't remember what book it was that I was reading, but it gave some great recommended resources that were "have to have" type books for a quality CM education.

I also bought some other books at the same time, like: Parables from Nature by Mrs. Gatty, Tales from Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Lamb (which is used in RtR), Favorite Poems Old and New, Anderson's Fairy Tales, etc. I could go on, but I don't think it's necessary, LOL!

Insight please! I don't want to spend money on things that I don't need!

I'm wondering the same. I have several books for the upper gudes (we're in Beyond) that are very similar to the ones Carrie lists, but not the exact ones.

I guess I could wait until I get my Preparing TM! Then, I could look through and see if the Fables needed are in my version. But, the question still remains....is the language the same? The language in my version is pretty difficult...not overly, but still difficult. I know that the word for donkey is what donkey's used to be called (which would now be considered a cuss word). So, I don't want to use a version that won't be appropriate for my DD's age. When I've read it aloud in the past, I've always substituted "donkey" for the other word, and it's been fine.

Suggestions/opinions?

We used the version called for and we loved it. It has Beautiful illustrations and the wording isn't too hard. You may try looking at some of the popular book websites to see if they have the "look inside" feature. I don't remember if it used the other word for donkey, but I always automatically change that one anyway so it's no biggie. I always get the particular version of a book they call for because it is so much easier to follow the schedule in the teacher's manual that way. Another reason I get their version is because I know it is specifically picked out by Carrie and Julie. I've found that I can trust their decisions on many levels...not only appropriateness but enjoyability as well!

Thanks for the advice about looking online to see if I could "look inside" the book! (Can't believe I didn't think about that myself!) I did just that and looked at the table of contents, some of the fables and the artwork. The illustrations are fabulous, and the writing IS QUITE A BIT DIFFERENT . I still like my version because it's a more difficult read and has MANY more fables in it, but probably for the purposes of Preparing I will go ahead and get the version listed in the catalog. It will be easier to sell as a package and easier to follow along with the guide, as well, and it's not very expensive. Thanks for reminding me that I can look inside a book w/o owning it yet!
