Carrie is probably the only one that can answer this but here goes: Is Biology/Nature Study the only science that is covered or will basic chemistry and physics be covered as well? As in levers, fulcrums that sort of thing I'm not talking High School level stuff.

All areas of science are covered (life, physical, and earth) with more time being spent on the life sciences in the elementary years (as is typical for all science programs for those years). We do get into simple machines in "Beyond...." and in "Bigger...". "Bigger..." also gets into some basic chemistry and physics principles, including an introduction to electricity.
We do not believe in having a full year of physics or a full year of chemistry in the early elementary years as outlined in the Well Trained Mind. We take a more Charlotte Mason style approach to science with the goal being for children to delight in God's creation and focus on things they can truly understand and enjoy.
I heard Dr. Wile, of Apologia, say that in the elementary years the goal is not to turn kiddos off to science by making it a dry, body of facts or full of difficult principles to learn. Instead, the goal is to make science interesting and delight-directed prior to middle school, so they don't hate science by the time they get there.
That just happens to be our philosophy, so if yours differs, it is easy to supplement with a science program that fits your family goals while still using HOD!

Thanks so much Carrie. My ds in the preschool yrs was a total animal nut so both of us are tired of animals and life science. I'm thinking he would enjoy a little break from Life science and would enjoy something simple on levers or magnetism or something. I definitely don't want to make him hate science though since we are all science lovers here. His favorite show is Mythbusters right now.
