questions about Preparing Hearts for His Glory

Post by catholicmom » Fri Jun 03, 2011 7:46 pm

Hi. My name is Amy and I am so excited to have found this curriculum. I have decided to use Preparing Hearts for His Glory in the fall. I am not able to purchase all of the curriculum all at one time, so I was wondering if someone could tell me what I would need for the first 2 months. I plan on using economy package + science. As far as the basic and deluxe packages of books, how are those used in your daily plan. Do I read them to the kids or do they read them alone? Do I buy one set or both? I have my own reading and math. Thanks for any help.

This is a post with the first 16 units (16 weeks) of Preparing and the books that those Units Require. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9198#p67165
The Post above includes everything you might need for the Economy Package, Science Adder, Basic Package, Self Study Deluxe Package, Music CD add on, Literature, Math, & Language.

I'm wondering what grade/age your dc is you are planning on doing Preparing with?

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

My son is almost 11 and daughter is 9. I had thought about using CTC, but decided I think they need to move into independent work a little more slowly. Up to this point it has been very teacher driven. Plus, I like the overview of history that they will get before we dive into one particular time frame.

Any feedback or suggestions is always helpful:)

In Christ,
Amy

I would encourage you to be sure and check the placement chart http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php before deciding for sure. I know your dc are in the age range for PHFHG but it is always good to be sure that their skills line up with the placement chart. We are enjoying PHFHG. You may look into extensions for your 11 dc. My dd loves the Self Study Deluxe History package. It is one of her favorite parts of the day. We have really enjoyed using the read alouds (Basic Package) but they are not essential if you are on a meager budget. They are wonderful books though!! Some we never would have discovered on our own. I think Viking Quest I: Raiders from the Sea and Tirzah are my two favorites. Welcome to HOD BTW! :)

Thank you for this post and the link. I too am doing Preparing in the fall and really need to economize. Spreading out purchasing books that I can't get at the library for Story Time and Independent is the only way I can manage this year. I am very excited to teach PHFHG this year! Last year we did Bigger hearts and we just loved it!

Amy, I think you will just love HOD and find this board so encouraging! It has been such a blessing using HOD for us last year, I wish I had found it right from the start! :)

Amy,

We'll be joining you in Preparing this fall also. I'm not for sure if this question of yours has been answered yet or not:
As far as the basic and deluxe packages of books, how are those used in your daily plan. Do I read them to the kids or do they read them alone? Do I buy one set or both?
The basic package are the books that you read aloud for the Storytime box of the plans. The deluxe package are the books that the dc use to do the independent history study. Here is a link to where Julie answered a similar question explaining the thought behind each of these boxes: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9443&p=69066#p69066

Welcome to HOD! :D

Thanks everyone for the advice and the links. I LOVE this message board! As much as I want to enjoy the summer, I am so excited to begin my journey with HOD and cannot wait for school to begin again.
