Hello Everyone. I am so excited to have chosen HOD for my first year of homeschooling!
When we start in August, Liam will be 4 years and 1 month and Molly will be 3 years and 2 months. I did the placement worksheet and here is my dilema. Liam is about 80% Little Hearts for His Glory, so that decision is easy. Molly is just right at 50/50 between Little Hands to Heaven and Little Hearts to his Glory. I am not sure if I should combine them both, which would be easier for my first foray into HSing, or if I should do seperate curriculums for each child.
Molly knows all her letters and sounds, her colors, shapes... she can tell the different between up and down, hot and cold, big and small, etc... she does not write any letters and is not really into even tracing them. She is at the VERY early stages of math concepts... I mean just starting to under stand something like "if you have 3 cards and I take one away <physically remove it> how many are left?"... she will look at the 2 left and say 2...
I have thought about doing LHTH for Liam but honestly, he IS beyond it. He can already write his name and his sisters and do basic addition and subtraction...
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated! I look forward to talking to you all again!

Well, I would not rush school just yet. Your oldest is not even 5. I did LHTH with my 4 yr old even though he was developmentally past it because it gave us structured one on one time and took us through the Bible. Do not make the mistake of rushing too quickly into the programs. They are wonderful programs when your children are ready for them. Enjoy this time with them. Do school or just do some fun activities. One day you will be so busy with school.
If they are only 1 year or so apart I would combine them if you prefer. Just wait till your oldest is 6 and your daughter is 5.

Welcome to the HOD Board!
Thanks for sharing about each of your dc, as that does really help with placement. I think it would work well to combine your 2 dc in LHTH, but use LHFHG for Liam's LA and math. This would help you combine your dc for the long haul, and not to the detriment of your youngest dd.
Many, many moms do this and enjoy it. This will work with all of the guides further down the line as well. You could also do school 4 days a week with LHTH, LHFHG, Beyond, and Bigger, and gain 1 year that way so your little dd has time to grow into the guides too, if you'd like. But what are your thoughts about this? I'd like to know.
I think you'll enjoy HOD so much - all of the guides have been a joy to teach. This board is also a happy part of my life - such neat Christian ladies - such solid advice and inspiring stories! I'm glad you are now a part of this.
In Christ,
Julie

Beth - I know Moscow well... I have many friends who went to College at UofI, although I am (ducking) a Bronco's fan! I am in Hailey... well north of Hailey and South of Ketchum/Sun Valley. I have been here almost 6 years and I love it
Amysconfections - I think you are right in not wanting to rush. My kids have had a VERY rough year which is one (of many) reasons I have decided to HS them. I was in the hospital for 3+ months last fall as a result of something my now ex-husband did and so I was gone, daddy was out of the picture for the most part... they lost their home and had to live with grandpa and grandma and visit me in the hospital (all 3 of us now stay with my parents, which is great... they have plenty of room and lots of land and the help is much appreciated. I could move, but I will not turn their lives upside down AGAIN anytime soon.) So it's been hard and I want them to enjoy being kids while learning, too... And especially with a focus on the bible. My ex husband (long story, but was very controlling and abusive) did not let me take them to church and such. They go to Sunday School now and just LOVE it, though!
Julie - Thank you for your detailed response! I think you and Amys may be right in doing LHTH and add-ons for DS. They both love learning but I would like that at the same level, mostly for my own sanity
And also because as a single mom, it IS hard to balance their individual needs 100% of the time, KWIM?
