LHFHG half speed

This is not urgent.... I have until Oct/Nov or so to figure it out, maybe even January if I play my cards right with Julianna

I want to start LHFHG out half speed with her so that I can space her and Grace out more in guides, BUT she is huge with workbook stuff and doesn't want to sit and listen much So how would you work LHFHG half speed but not left side right side? Would you just do left side half speed and full speed right side? or is there some other way to work it so the reading and workbooks would be every day?

Granted I haven't actually looked at it yet.... I was just wondering if anyone else tried to split it that way?

We did LHFHG half speed and my intention was to keep it at half speed for 2 years because my son was on the lower side of the age range. After about a year, he was ready for more so we went ahead and bumped it up to full speed, but this was our schedule at half speed.

Day 1:
Rhyme in Motion
Reading About History
Handwriting/Fine Motor Skills box
Review Bible verse/Listen to CD
Phonics
Math Activity from the guide
Rotating Box

Day 2:
Rhyme in Motion
Usually we would read one of the supplemental history books from the appendix if I could find them in the library
Handwriting/Fine Motor Skills
Bible Study Box
Phonics
Math page from Earlybird
Storytime

This kept our days pretty even as far as workload and amount of time it took. When we got through the K handwriting/fine motor skills books, we just started over with the 1st grade books. Hope that helps!

Anytime I go 1/2 speed in the guides I always do reading, math, and handwriting everyday. We did LHFHG 1/2 speed briefly and although I don't remember exactly how I split it up, I do know we did reading, math, handwriting, and reviewed the memory verse everyday.

I am doing LHFHG at 1/2 speed and we have been doing the 3 R's (incl Thinking Skills) daily and the rest of the subjects 3 times a week. Next year when we finish the rest of the guides we will do the 1st grade options for the 3 R's. I will use the Beyond guide for the wonderful hands-on math activities that Carrie has written for Singapore 1A/1B.

So it looks like the only way that's been tried to keep workbook stuff every day is to go full speed with the right side and split up the left. I suppose I could do fine motor one day and math another, but that probably won't work for my workbook kid, just not enough stuff to do.

I just hate going full speed with the 3R's because she'll already be early... even though she's capable. I guess we'll just see what happens in the fall

I had another thought for you on the workbooks. The Rod & Staff books that Carrie schedules are just 2 in a series of 7 or 8 books. The books are only a few dollars each. Maybe you could get a couple of the other books to use. I actually used them with my son before finding HOD and he loved them. Here's the link http://www.rodandstaffbooks.com/list/Ro ... I just looked at your daughters age. My ds will be in first grade next year, that is why I did his 3 R's daily. With my older ds, who started LHFHG when he was in pre-k, I went full speed, not knowing about 1/2 pace and between math books we did some other math activities by Singapore. He is going to do Prim math 3A/3B in 3rd grade, or he would have already done it this year. I am so very glad that I did not rush him through the math part. So, I hear what you are saying not rushing her even though she enjoys doing the work books!

I think you have a great idea going to alternate math with fine motor activity. Keep you plan flexible and seek the Lord, He will give you direction as you get different ideas from all of us here on the board.

I love the idea given by PP to do some of the extra R&S workbooks, to keep your little sweetie happy!

I'll have to look at the other R&S books... Honestly, she could have gone ahead and combined with her older sister after all, but I really don't want her in Beyond in the fall anyway SO since she won't care about not doing all the reading every day for a little while, I was going to make them farther apart so I wouldn't always be doing back to back guides. She just had a 4 month period where her hand strength wasn't quite where it needed to be for LHFHG. Now it's there.

Handwriting I"m not concerned about since I can just do both the K and the A books with LHFHG, but I really like using 1A/B in math with 1st grade, and she'll have JUST turned 6 when she starts 1st grade. Like I said though, we aren't starting until mid-fall anyway... I just had some time to think about it now I'm still open to any and all suggestions!
