So my dd places in Beyond with ER and ds in Preparing. I'm planning on doing DITHOR with him. He will be 10 going into 4th grade. I'm thinking R&S 4, if we use Carrie's suggestions for LA, and DITHOR 4/5. Is this correct? Do we go by grade level for DITHOR placement? Can I use some of the books used in Preparing for DITHOR as well?

As far as placement in Rod and Staff goes, we typically recommend placing in a child one level below grade level in the earlier years. So, we'd lean toward Rod and Staff English 3 for a 4th grader, doing all of 3 in grade 4.
As far as DITHR goes, here are a couple of threads detailing how to decide which Student Book to use: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3614

While you can use any book you choose with DITHR, I would lean toward staying away from those used in Preparing Hearts, as those are meant to go along with the specific time periods and readings from Preparing. Instead, I'd lean toward choosing books from the DITHR Book Packs, or off of the Book List.
