How long each day for CTC?

Post by Aimee » Fri Apr 29, 2011 8:30 am

I am considering using Creation to Christ for three of my sons next year; two who will be 11 and in 5th grade, and one who will be 14 and in 8th (with extensions for him). I'm wondering how long folks are spending each day using CTC. Can anyone share how long your typical school-day is, beginning to end?
Thanks so much.
Blessings,
Aimee

We just finished week 32 (of 35) of CTC, with extensions, for our 8th grader, and it generally takes us about 4-1/2 hrs. per day (sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more).

That sounds reasonable, thank you for sharing. My 11-year-olds would be using it as written, but my 14-yr-old would be using the history portion, with extensions, and his own science and LA. I had hoped it wouldn't be overwhelming for the 11-year-olds though. It sounds wonderful! How has your kiddo liked it?
Thanks so much!

Hi Aimee,

Well, she doesn't love school of any sort, really, but she has liked HOD as well or better than anything else we've ever used, and it's a perfect fit for her and our family. We are planning to stay with HOD through high school. :)

Hi Aimee! Here's a thread that should help out...

CTC time it takes:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3765

Carrie makes an intentional effort to make each day balanced, even going so far as to count out the amount of times dc are asked to write, read, do hands-on, etc., so that each day is balanced, and so we moms and our dc can depend on it consistently taking the same amount of time from day to day. We found the time increments shared in the above thread to be true all year long, though I will say about a month into a guide time does seem to begin to fall off, as dc know the routine and what is expected of them. HTH! :D

Thank you, that does help to know! It is similar to what we are trying to keep to now, so that is good to hear. :D
