I am currently working through LHFHG for everything but LA and Math. For LA and Math I am using BLHFHG. My question is when I finish these should I skip BLHFHG for History, Storytime and all and just move on to Bigger since that is where my ds will be for LA and Math? Does Beyond cover a different time period of US History then Bigger?
Thanks
Sarah

My ds is currently 6. He will be 7 in Nov. When I started with HOD, skill wise he placed into Beyond. My husband wanted son to have the overview of world history first since son had no history. We are currently doing Singapore 1a/1b with the activities in Beyond. We are also doing the spelling and la from Beyond. Obviously when he finishes this he would be ready to go to Bigger for math and LA. Should I just put him into that for History and Storytime as well?

Hmmm, I would lean toward skipping Beyond and going straight to Bigger.shera wrote:My ds is currently 6. He will be 7 in Nov. When I started with HOD, skill wise he placed into Beyond. An option you might consider if you have access to the books is to read the History Books from Beyond over the summer as read alouds. You wouldn't need to do the activities with it and you would be able to read several days worth in one reading. This would give him some of the background before diving into Bigger.
Sarah,
I can't remember if you were combining your son with another child? If so, then "Beyond..." would work best to keep on combining.
If not, then I would take a hard look at the placement chart to make sure your son would be ready for the writing that is required in "Bigger..." and also to make sure that he is ready for the jump to lengthier readings with few to no pictures.
If he places into "Bigger..." on the chart (and you think he can handle "Preparing...." the following year), then you could go with "Bigger...". However, if you think the writing would be too much, I would go with "Beyond...".
Let us know what you think. Here's the link to the placement chart:
