Hi all! I am going to be homeschooling my 7 year old twins next school year. I've been obsessed with curriculum and this decision is a hard one. I am drawn to HOD for many, many reasons. I do have a situation where 1 twin is right on track at her school (Christian school that uses A Beka) and the other twin is really struggling. He is in vision therapy and has just a lot of issues with learning. I looked at placement and I think starting with Beyond LHFHG would be a good fit for both of them. I'm just trying to figure out what would be the best fit for both and trying to meet both of their needs.

Welcome to HOD! You will not regret using this curriculum. I just wanted to say that your struggling learner sounds a lot like my dd. She will be in Beyond in the fall. So, if you looked at the placement chart and feel that is where your ds should be, you should be alright. If you want both children to be together, Beyond would be fine for your dd as well. If your dd is very strong and really places in Bigger, you could put her in that if you want to do two different guides. If you go with Beyond, you would just put each one in their own Math and Reading if it doesn't coincide. The writing can also be adjusted for your ds if that is an area of struggle. My dd struggles with reading and writing, so I may need to lessen the amount she does each day if there is a lot of frustration. She wears prism glasses and will probably have other vision therapy later. Hers was a problem at birth. I believe that is the cause of most of her struggles in her work. HOD has been wonderful for her. I've tried different curriculum over the years with my older dc and with dd 7. Since finding HOD, I have no desire to look at anything else.

If both kiddo's fit well in Beyond, I agree with pp to put them at their own math and reading level, without making it a big issue. They will enjoy Beyond and it is a great place to start your journey with HOD at their age.
I would recommend doing the guides as is and perhaps building up the activity level for your ds over the year, if he has any difficulty with writing assignments! Keep coming back to the board as it is a wealth of information for all of us Ask questions and glean from those who have gone before
Almost every time I come on, I learn something I can implement in my school day.
My prayer for your family is that HOD will be as great a blessing to your family as it has been to mine in the last couple of years and looking ahead to the next couple!

I think Beyond sounds like a wonderful place for you to start. We used it this year with my 7 and 10 year old, and it has been great for us. I encourage you to give HOD serious consideration. I have been very blessed and happy using this curriculum this year. Blessings!

Pam, my son also wears prism glasses (bifocals). He'll be in vision therapy at least through the summer.

I do think my daughter could go to Bigger but I do want to keep them together as much as possible (reading will have to be different) since they are twins. Plus, I will be doing Little Hands To Heaven with my 4 year old so I figured 2 different manuals will be enough for my 1st year.

I get more excited about HOD the more I look at my catalog and visit the board so thank you!!! It's a tremendous relief to think that I can find something to help my son and teach all my children.

I just wanted to welcome you to the board! We're glad to have you here! I do think Beyond would be a good place to begin with your twins. Since your son is struggling a bit in his learning, you may want to consider doing Beyond 4 days a week and then carrying it over into the next school year 9 weeks to finish it. That would still challenge your daughter without having things get too overwhelming for your son. It would also give your son ample time to grow into the skills needed for Bigger Hearts, which is a step up from Beyond, and allow you to keep your twins together in many areas. You may need to borrow a few language arts or math things from Little Hearts for your son if needed in phonics, handwriting, fine motor skills, or math. This should work fine.
