Books to use after Reading Lesson...
I am trying to think a little ahead and am wondering if anyone knows of some good first readers to use after we finish The Reading Lesson. I am thinking that during the summer it would be good to have the kids still reading.

Love my husband of 18 years this year;
Love my 3 teenagers--13, 15, and 16. They keep me young, but hanging on for dear life!

I believe it is perfectly geared to be ready for the Emerging Reader set afterwards.

I know they would follow with the emerging readers from HOD, but I really was hoping to save those for the following school year. I am just looking for, I guess, extra readers to be used the summer before I would normally start with the emerging reader set. Does that make sense.

My kids love those Dr. Suess readers...Green Eggs and Ham, In a People House, Hop on Pop, Go Dog Go....you get the idea. Also, most libraries have an "easy reader" section or the librarian can direct you to some. Oh, we also LOVE the "Mr. Putter and Tabby" series by Cythia Rylant...they are so funny! Henry and Mudge books are by the same author and they are also good.
If I think of others I'll re-post. I usually have my best ideas about an hour or two after the question...I'm slow...

I would see what your library has. I am in the same situation but we are going to start BLHFHG mid-summer, so until then I have a box of Abeka readers that someone gave me and we will just go through them which will keep my son practicing his reading.

Leana,
My dd has really enjoyed Little Bear, Frog and Toad, Biscuit, Clifford books, etc... Just take a look at the 'series' section in the library and you may find some your dc would enjoy. If they have an easy reader section, that would be a great place to start. Have you tried the Bob books? Those are fairly easy, too. Do you have the LHFHG or BLHFHG manual? In Beyond there is a supplemental title listed for each unit..you could use those, and save the suggested title with questions for the fall. Just a few ideas...hth.
