Question about using Singapore 1A/B with Little Hearts

Post by MommyInTraining » Tue Apr 01, 2008 2:12 am

The Math Basics box in the text seems to be geared more to the Kindergarten age. Are there alternative activities in the appendix to use with those using the higher level math?

I was also wondering about this for the science. We are going to be using the !st grade science. Is that going to mesh OK with the science box in the plans?

Thanks!

For Math - 1A/1B are scheduled in the back. This is using the text book other wise there are hands on activities planned in Beyond.

For Science - this is also scheduled in the appendix. I just got the grade 2 book to go with Beyond and from the little I looked at it appears that the books just give more information but cover the same topics so you should be fine with the activities.

To use 1A/1B with Little Hearts you're going to need to either 1) get the Beyond manuel to have the schedule and activities or 2) get the guides for singapore.com that go with 1A/B. (hope that makes sense...it's early here....)

You can use either science. The K one is scheduled in the boxes and the 1st grade one is scheduled in the back. My kids have also enjoyed just reading from the science book.....very colorful pictures and just the right amt. of info.

Also wanted to mention that these science texts do an excellent job of pointing out that humans are not "animals" in that they do have a soul and animals do not.....makes it very clear and leads to good discussion. I know you were concerned about the Burgess books, and just wanted to mention that.

As Melanie said, the activities for 1A / 1B are scheduled in the Beyond manual.

My son is doing Beyond, but he is in 2A / 2B. I am happy that I went ahead and bought the Bigger manual to do the 2A/2B activities with him. Although it is not neccessary, he really enjoys doing the activities.

I don't have any trouble working with the 2 manuals, we do math first, so I start with the Bigger manual, then I put it away and do everything else from the Beyond manual. :D

This is for Carrie. I will post it here and then it will be on the board if someone is searching for the answer.

Since I will be using Singapore 1A/B with Little Hearts, is there anyway to get a copy of the math activities from Beyond to use with Little Hearts?

You will need to buy the Beyond Manual and use it for just the math activities.

When my son did Little Hearts, the Beyond manual wasn't written yet, he did just fine doing 1A/1B without the activities. However, if you can afford it, I highly reccomend getting the Beyond manual, the activities make the math much more enjoyable.

If you were planning to use Beyond anyway, you won't be out any money as you will just be buying it early... :D

Lee Ann did a great job of answering your questions! I also wanted to mention that if you do purchase the Beyond... manual (to have the optional, hands-on math activities that we've written for 1A/1B WORKBOOKS), then you don't have to purchase the 1A/1B TEXTBOOKS (as the activities in the guide replace the need for the TEXTBOOKS). So, you do save $17.40 in textbook purchases you'd have to make, which defrays the cost of the "Beyond..." guide some.

Otherwise, you can just follow the schedule we've already included for Math 1A/1B in the Appendix of the "Little Hearts.." guide. :D We've done Singapore with and without the activities (due to the activities not being written in time to use with some of my kiddos), and it's worked fine both ways. My boys do love the activities though. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
